Victory at Sea - The Legendary World War II Documentary (History Channel)

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Victory At Sea, is a Victory for your home.
Every bit as good as I remembered it.
Many times in life you remember things in a light that is unrealistic causing major disappointment on re-experiencing that memory.
V at Sea arrived and I actually waited a few days to start watching it for that very reason. But instantly Michael Graves incredible narration rekindled all of the amazement and wonder I remembered when I was a lad of 14 (I'm 67 now).

For anyone who is more than 20 years younger than I, this set is a winner for a very different reason than mine. By watching this you can experience what it was like to have lived much closer in time to WWII, the emotions, the thrills of final victory. Yes, yes, they treat the atomic bombs as just another weapon. But, of course, that was all it was back then. You don't have to be even mildly intelligent to realize our attitudes now are better informed.

But having lived through it I can assure you we were just happy it was over. Wars now offer very little threat to America; not so then. Even at 10 years old I could feel the release of anxiety in my friends and neighbors.

This brilliant work is worth watching for any American family, although I'm not sure pre-teens need to see it. Some of it is quite graphic; not gruesome, just graphically real.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Victory At Sea
Having seen the original on TV a long time ago I was anxious to have a copy of my own. I loved the action of the Navy and most of all the sound track!!
Anyone interested in the history of our country would benefit by seeing this video.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - iconic
the victory at sea is a classic of all classics of ww2
the original tv series for it's time set a standard
in both video and audio along with the richard rodgers
score, which i fell is still 100% relative today
regardless of what's out there concerning ww2.
this clearly shows the feeling and passion
of the dedicated and honest hard working american
navel shipment in trying to preserve our freedom
in the usa. 3 cheers to victory at sea.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Video is good-the audio is horrible
I viewed this series only once.I couldnt take the blasting music,my thumb developed a blister from
turning the audio up and down through out the whole series.I went out and got the VHS series last week.
The video and sound are excellent. The only problem with the VHS set is they dont separate the episodes with the
ending "V" and the beginning of the next episode with the music,so it makes it very difficult to find a
specific episode. When I copy these on to dvd on my computer,I will have to separate and put the music in before each episode myself. I think it would have been nice if they had done that already like the original
series was.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - THE AUDIO ISSUE
I would like to interject a word of caution regarding the comments about the audio quality being so bad.It appears that Victory at Sea must have fallen into public domain because it is also being offered by small public domain "Studios", each with varying qualities. It would be interesting to know if the copies being reviewed originated from the History Channel or were from some other source. Remember, too, that the series was broadcast in the mid-50's when the focus wasn't on sound. We were happy just to GET a picture!
