Chicago Cutlery Walnut Tradition 14-Piece Block Set

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - ok but cheap.
I've owned these knives for several months now and cook most my meals. If I had to guess I use these knives at least once a day.

Block: Nice wood block with a metal emblem on one side.

Chef's knife: Blade(stamped metal) seems thin. The length is shorter than most which I feel makes it easier to control but I have to use the steel often to put the edge back on.And I'm a no dishwasher, nothing but wood cutting board, hand wash them one at a time care Nazi.I like the wood handles with the rough finish because I feel it adds to my grip and control but most of my friends are turned off by them.

Boning knife:Same blade material as the chef just slimmer to add some flex. Mine came with a small nick in the blade but other than that it performs tasks like cleaning a rack of lamb well enough. You will dull the hell out of it on one rack cleaning the bones.

Paring knife: About as classic of a paring knife as you can get. Nothing special here.

Steak knifes:You get 8 of them! Which is good because your plates are going to dull the heck out of them after a couple of chicken breasts so you can always reach for a spare.

Sharpening steel:While I already owned a nice steel I was glad to see they included one.Once again a very basic design that even by classic standards is outdated. Gets the job done but a quick wipe down versus my modern version lends me to believe the one included wants to remove more material in the honing process. So I gave it a pass.

All in all I'm sad to see where an American classic has gone.Functional but low quality.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Once great Cutlery gone down hill
I am in the food industry and have some great "old" Chicago knives. Some of my knives are over 50 years old and still going strong. They have great blades that sharpen easily and wear well.
I bought a vacation home recently and one of the first thing I bought for the kitchen was this set of Chicago Cutlery.I was angry when I saw what Chicago Cutlery has done to the quality of their product.Poor grade thin steel blades that feel like toy knives with handles of cheap poor quality wood.
Stay away from these knives...do not reward them for destroying a great American Tradition.
They should be forced to give up the Name......

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Sahrp blades at an affordable place
When I read reviews about being knives of low quality I was worried. However they seem to meet my expectations so far.

I'm not a cook, but for a regular kitchen this knife set are more than enough.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Nice Set
Bought this for my mother who is 82 years old, and she is very happy.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Little
I'm normally good about reading descriptions... but somehow I missed that the large chef knife was just a litte biddy thing... Luckily for me, this happens to be my preference in knife sizes. The wood handles do need occasional oiling, no biggie there.I mainly bought the set for the 8 steak knives and am very pleased... and since was a sale item, it was defiantely cheap enough to be worth it.
