Brother HL-2170w 23ppm Laser Printer with Wireless & Wired Network Interfaces

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great price and easy set up.
I was looking for an inexpensive wireless printer and found this for $86 at Amazon.I have multiple computers (using different operating systems) on a wireless network and this thing was the easiest thing that I've ever set up.It prints well and is reasonably fast.I have not encountered any problems with this unit, and would recommend it to anyone looking in this price range.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great printer-read the instructions
Printer works beyound expectations. I misunderstood the directions and set the printer up on an ethernet connection first.I thought I could then unplug the ethernet cable and my wireless router would find it.this is not the case. The printer actually uses two different printer ports, one for wired and one for the wireless. Once I found this out and remved the ethernet printer setup took less than five minutes. Reading the book is like stopping to ask directions, guys don't do this. In this case it will save a lot of aggrivation.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Overall pleased, time will tell, looking for a printer that lasts longer than a year
The last three printers I have purchased have all been "disposable", dying within a year of purchase. I was looking for something for my home office computer that would not die in a year and would serve its most basic function of printing every time I hit the print button.

I have not tried this printer with my wireless devices. It does clearly state in the directions you can do it one way or the other - not both. It was really easy to set up. In fact the manufatcurer puts dummy stickers on things for the people who do not read directions.

In fact setup took me about 5 minutes.

The first couple of sheets had a dusting of ink cartridge on the edges.

Primary use, my husband and I both print a lot of lesson plans and hand outs and short stories. It prints fast and reliable each time. It is slightly louder than my last printer but my last printer died in 9 months so maybe a little more noise is good. (this is only a black printing printer, no multifunction junk)

I used the specialty tray to print some envelopes and labels - no problem.

Ink cartridges will run you between $27.43 - and $33.84 for the normal cartridge. The high yield cartridge (2,600 sheets) will run you between $34.95 and $48.85. I would recommend being very cautious about the refill cartridge you use - I have yet to have any luck with refilled ink - with the exception of one or two online ink cartridge recyclers. Read the seller's ratings carefully before you buy refurbished cartridges.

The instructions also tell you that if you want to connect this to a network, you should get a professional technology person to do it.

I'll report back if I find any problems with prolonged use.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Nice!
Network is easy to set up and works perfectly. I loved my old Brother Laser printer but using it as a shared printer, it would get lost and had to be reprogrammed. Now, I'm getting the same economical and high quality printing that I expected from a Brother Laser printer but with trouble free networking. Very nice.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - great value, great printer
I bought this printer from the good reviews and great price listed here on Amazon. I was tired of wasting my money on inkjet printers and this seemed to be the solution. In addition, I wanted a wireless printer for my laptop.

I had difficulty setting up the wireless part, so I read a lot of reviews and not being a computer geek most of it was over my head (although I did manage to set up my own network). I am using VISTA.

The EASIEST way to set up wireless is:

1.Forget the manual
2.Go to the brother-usa.com website, click on printers (HL)
3.Go to the FAQ section on the left hand side
4.Follow the directions for setting up wireless without the cable
There are directions for both VISTA and XP
5.After following the directions exactly, then get out the CD
6.Install using the printer driver ONLY (everything else is done)
7.Print

I could never figure out what I was doing wrong and under the FAQ directions you have to activate the network card (which is not in the manual). When I did it this way it took 10 minutes to install (including the CD part).

I am so happy I can now print from the living room and the printer is in the office.:)
