- The story of the first real Pilgrims in America, who were wine-making French Huguenots, not dour English Separatists
- The coming-of-age story of Queen Isabella, who suggested that Columbus pack the moving mess hall of pigs that may have spread disease to many Native Americans
- The long, bloody relationship between the Pilgrims and Indians that runs counter to the idyllic scene of the Thanksgiving feast
- The little-known story of George Washington as a headstrong young soldier who committed a war crime, signed a confession, and started a war!
Full of color, intrigue, and human interest, America's Hidden History is an iconoclastic look at America's past, connecting some of the dots between history and today's headlines, proving why Davis is truly America's Teacher.

- Lesser-Known Details in American History
In six chapters, the author presents events in American history that span the period from the mid fifteenth to the late eighteenth centuries. Each chapter has a different focus but follows chronologically from the preceding one. The topics that are progressively highlighted in these different chapters vary from frontier survival and religious dogma to various military alliances and encounters to hotly debated political issues. The writing style is fairly fast-paced, lively and broadly accessible. ... Read More

There are always books that make me think of how manyshaped our Nation and how the ledgends are embelished as they trickle down to each of us over the years.A facinating awakining of our sense of historical events.

- misleading title and reads like a text book
This is partially my fault but when I looked at the title I just saw the "america's hidden history" and thought it would be about all of america's hidden history.I was looking forward to hearing previously unknown facts about slavery, civil war, roaring 20's, great depression, world wars, integration, supreme court decissions, etc.Yes, it's my fault for not reading the full title but this author has never limited himself to such a narrow time frame before.I think America's time period taht included ... Well done piece of work. This is the perfect book for arming yourself with plenty of anecdotes to tell at parties. It's amazing how often these themes are brought up, and no one knows the real story.

- Light reading on a heavy subject
While recounting one off stories of the American founding is entertaining and refreshing intellectually, Davis provides six stories which have some threads woven together, but one must really look hard for them. The disappointing aspect to the book is the starting of a chapter, but the failure to finish it right. For example the chapter on Warren's Toga. When I first read the title, I was curious to know more about Dr. Warren's wearing of a toga. This took Davis about 2 pages to finish telling, then right ...
