Product Description:
An astonishing new science called neuroplasticity is overthrowing the centuries-old notion that the human brain is immutable. In this revolutionary look at the brain, psychiatrist and psychoanalyst Norman Doidge, M.D., provides an introduction to both the brilliant scientists championing neuroplasticity and the people whose lives theyve transformed. From stroke patients learning to speak again to the remarkable case of a woman born with half a brain that rewired itself to work as a whole, The Brain That Changes Itself will permanently alter the way we look at our brains, human nature, and human potential.

- Great Information, but Very Pro Animal Experimentation.
The scientific content of this book is fascinating.Fine.But when the author started talking about blinding 3-week old kittens for scientific experiments--not to mention cracking open the skulls of endless numbers of monkeys, and crippling monkeys by giving them neurological damage, etc.--I got really irritated and quit reading. He also slams PETA on several pages, so those of you who are animal rights supporters, beware.
The author is very supportive of (apparently) ALL animal ... Read More

- Incurable Degenerative Neurologic Disease - Not!
This book is fascinating and incredibly valuable for anyone with any number of neurological disorders. I have MS, a condition which the conventional medical wisdom says is incurable and degenerative, with little or no hope of improvement if you have the progressive variety, or once you reach the progressive stage. For several years, I was progressing down this road, when through a series of happy chance events, I started regularly engaging in activities which challenged the limits of my impinged abilities. ... - The Book That Changed Your Mind about your Brain
I am interested in mindfulness and physiological - as well as the neurological and psychological - aspects of the brain. This book is fantastic - I recommend it to anyone who is looking for insights into the mind-body connection, and how "intractable" forms of brain injuries and syndromes can be altered. Many long-held theories about the immutable, hardwired nature of the brain are debunked, or at least seriously questioned. An extremely well-written, thought- provoking and accessible book for professionals ... Read More

- The Complex Brain
After I read this book, I walked away with an abundant amount of "brain knowledge." It is amazing how complex and beautiful the brain is. I did not know that the brain is plastic in old age. Usually from the time we're young, we hear that older people have a harder time retaining information. I learned from professionals, such as the ninety year old doctor, who stayed mentally young from brain exercises. While I was interested in neuroscience before, this book sealed the deal. I know so much more about my brain, ... Read More
