Rating:
- Okay, but rather skimpy and predictable (3.5 *s)
This book has some elements of what Connelly fans want to see: street-smart insightfulness, like the recognition that "Everybody lies. Cops lie. Lawyers lie. Witnesses lie. The victims lie. A trail is a contest of lies"; or, that "brass verdict" is a term for deadly street justice when the legal system does not deliver; and familiar characters like long-time favorite detective Harry Bosch and recent addition, the Lincoln lawyer, Mickey Haller. The story line is really quite simple. Haller is assigned ... Read More
Rating:
- Unsatisfying at the end but otherwise terrific.
Having Bosch and Haller in the same novel is kind of like having Pacino and DeNiro in the same movie.Maybe after the terrible Righteous Kill that isn't such a good analogy, but it is a fun concept for Connelly fans and it works damned well.Connelly's work rarely suffers when he strays from Bosch. One of those cases involves a Hollywood mogul accused of murdering his wife and ... Read More
Rating:
- The verdict is favorable
Brass Verdict by Michael Connelly is an excellent murder mystery with suspense and courtroom drama. It is a least as good as previous titles by this author.

- Great plot, great characters, great fun!
Michael Connelly writes a great mystery.I don't know how he manages to do it, but he delivers every single time. His primary series character, Detective Bosch, hooks up with his newest character, Mickey Haller from The Lincoln Lawyer in his latest book.
Like all of Connelly's books the writing is uncomplicated & well-paced with an emphasis on both plot AND character.I suspect it's this that makes his books so enjoyable. This one is less a police procedural & more a courtroom drama & ... Read More
