the book has a beatiful introduction, in which the author tells her personal experience in childhood and youth (her father was a writer, and it was not very simple to understand this kind of job)
i'm not a religious person, and sometimes i feel the author is hiding something about herself, behind words ont faith. but maybe i'm being too skeptical.
as a guide for writers, it is really for begginers.

This book is a delight to read. I bought it knowing it was geared toward book writers while I'm a song writer. It was another song writer that recommended it. Some background.
Commercial country song writers can be a maladjusted lot who write songs that are simple and deep, painful and happy, witty and stupid. There are song writer legends about over drinking, under achieving, dirty dealing and crossing the line between brilliance and insanity. In general, we can get depressed and that ... Read More
Rating: - Funny as hell and sets down some great advice for writers
First let me say, I found Bird by Bird to be absolutely hilarious.Even if you're not a writer, Lamott's twisted, neurotic humor is great. It was a truly enjoyable read for that point alone.
Now down to the writing bit. I went to a fairly well-regarded film school and took various classes on screenwriting.Coming from that background you'd think I'd have some idea how to tackle writing a feature length script.But no, you'd be wrong. This is a down to earth book about the life of writing.I'd recommend it to anyone writing, trying to write or even thinking about trying to write.I loved every essay.
Anne Lamontt has a personal style.She writes as if she were writing a letter to me.
