Product Description:
The best-selling author of Stiff turns her outrageous curiosity and infectious wit on the most alluring scientific subject of all: sex. The study of sexual physiologywhat happens, and why, and how to make it happen betterhas been a paying career or a diverting sideline for scientists as far-ranging as Leonardo da Vinci and James Watson. The research has taken place behind the closed doors of laboratories, brothels, MRI centers, pig farms, sex-toy R&D labs, and Alfred Kinseys attic. Mary Roach, the funniest science writer in the country (Burkhard Bilger of The New Yorker), devoted the past two years to stepping behind those doors. Can a person think herself to orgasm? Can a dead man get an erection? Is vaginal orgasm a myth? Why doesnt Viagra help womenor, for that matter, pandas? In Bonk, Roach shows us how and why sexual arousal and orgasm, two of the most complex, delightful, and amazing scientific phenomena on earth, can be so hard to achieve and what science is doing to slowly make the bedroom a more satisfying place.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Yet Another Time Waster by the Female Author
Well, I've read several popular science books by the female authors and all of them were as weak as hell. This one is too! Instead of addressing questions of how and why things are as they are, author devotes large number of pages to prosthetic penises and how Taiwanese doctor operates on people.. Instead of giving hard facts Roach just tells off-topic stories and tells them and tells them.. It's not supposed to be a novel, or is it?

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Mary Roach is my hero
This book was amazing. Really interesting and witty. I cannot wait for Mary Roach to put out her next masterpiece.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - a survey
Save yourself the time and work of reading research papers. This book gives you the substance and highlights and laughs of a number of papers and sex studies. It also illustrates the lengths to which a reporter will go for a story.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The best book I have ever read!
Being a grad student of Human Sexuality, I may find the topic more interesting than others. That being said, Roach's book is witty, informative and very well written. I have read the book cover-to-cover and would recommend it to anyone with even the vaguest interest in the topic. I can't say enough great things about this book.

I am looking forward to checking out Roach's other works.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - There's Something About Mary...
I know Mary Roach first and foremost as a humorist, her monthly column in Reader's Digest never failing to illicit chuckles. When moving on to read her first book, I anticipated the same dry wit I so enjoy and "Stiff" was an engaging read due to her one-of-a-kind repartee on the morbidly interesting facts behind dead bodies and their scientific uses."Spook" captivated me as well, my acute but skeptical viewpoint of the paranormal clamoring for scientific explanations behind such things as mediumship, ...
