Product Description:
Acclaimed novelist Anne Rivers Siddons's new novel is a stunning tale of love and loss.

For as long as she can remember, they were Cam and Lilly--happily married, totally in love with each other, parents of a beautiful family, and partners in life. Then, after decades of marriage, it ended as every great love story does...in loss. After Cam's death, Lilly takes a lone road trip to her and Cam's favorite spot on the remote coast of Maine, the place where they fell in love over and over again, where their ghosts still dance. There, she looks hard to her past--to a first love that ended in tragedy; to falling in love with Cam; to a marriage filled with exuberance, sheer life, and safety-- to try to figure out her future.

It is a journey begun with tender memories and culminating in a revelation that will make Lilly re-evaluate everything she thought was true about her husband and her marriage.

I have been a regular reader of Anne Rivers Siddons works. Her writing is somewhat "lyrical" or what my writer teacher would deem as descriptive writing.OFF SEASON, her latest works, is no exception.

The story begins as Lilly loses her beloved husband, Cam.They had been partners in the truest sense and were thought ... Read More

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Dreadful!
I was once a fan of Ms. Siddons -- Peachtree Road, Colony, and Heartbreak Hotel are all great reads. But, her recent novels have all been disappointments; this one was the worst yet.

First of all, it felt like a retread of her earlier works.A determined heroine with a difficult relationship with her parents -- CHECK.An almost mystical relationship with the outdoors -- CHECK. Love at first sight -- CHECK.Secrets in her and her husband's past -- CHECK.A betrayal by a loved one ... Read More

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Lazy author, phoney local color...
She didn't even bother to look up simple facts about nature, the wildlife and sailing she writes about in florid detail, getting them wrong, wrong, wrong. Makes me hate the rest of her supposedly so-evocative detail. I've never been to Maine, so I wanted to enjoy the location, but I do know a lot about ospreys, eagles, and sailboats, and she gets them all wrong, so I assume she was equally lazy about everything else she describes in such detail. She even has the summer solstice being the **longest NIGHT** ... Read More

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Disappointing, to say the least!
This was the first of Siddons' books that I read, and I am unlikely to pick up another.Characters are unbelievable or completely undeveloped--are we to accept Lilly's mother's explanation that allowing the old man to fondle her was an act of "kindness"? Jeebs' absences are explained, almost as an afterthought, long after the reader wonders where he is. Brief comments are made about Tatty, but she isn't really seen until she appears to influence and then move in with (?????) Lilly's father. What happened to ... Read More

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Too many deaths
I love Anne Rivers Siddons and always look forward to her next book. I did have trouble with this one, however. For me, it was that everyone in the book was dying and the two loves in Lilly's life (Jon and Cam) each caused the death of a sibling, which stretched believability. I was distracted by all the deaths -- Peaches' parents, Jon, Jon's brother, Lilly's mother, Lilly's dog, Cam, and Cam's sister. Midway through the book, I started to count them. As much as I liked the development of Lilly's character, ... Read More
