Amazon.com Review:
"The Greeks and Romans knew about diabetes. Fortunately, theway they tested for the condition--by tasting the urine--has gone bythe wayside." Diabetes for Dummies has the friendly, quirkystyle you expect from all the For Dummies books, but this is noskim-the-surface Diabetes 101. Rubin has packed this book with usefulinformation, peppered with warm advice for enjoying your life whileliving with diabetes. One of his points is that although you'd rathernot have this disease, you're lucky to have it now instead of a fewdecades ago, because today you can manage diabetes and live aproductive, quality-filled life.
The book is divided into sectionson "Dealing with the Onset of Diabetes," "How Diabetes Affects YourBody," "Managing Diabetes: The 'Thriving with Diabetes' LifestylePlan," and "Special Considerations for Living with Diabetes." Eachchapter is packed with facts and strategies on topics such asmonitoring, battling complications, medications, diet, andexercise. If you skim, it's an introduction to diabetes; if you readit carefully, it's a textbook. Web surfers will appreciate the"Dr. W.W. Web" appendix, where Rubin lists many useful diabetes Websites. (If you'd rather click than type, you can visit Rubin's Website, where he offers links to all the diabetes sites.) Also includedis a mini-cookbook of multiethnic recipes from noted restaurants, mostly in San Francisco (with the restaurant address, in case you wantto order instead of cook). --Joan Price

We just found out that my husband was diabetic. He was horrified. I prefer to research as much as possible to increase my knowledge, hopefully, providing better results. This book has great information. That would explain why the American Diabetic Organization recommended it.It provided information for us to cope and manage his health.I also purchased Diabetes 911...a great addition.Between the two, a couple pills and some insulin, we have dropped his glucose count by more than 350 in just ... - 2nd best book for type 2 diabetes
This was quite informative but not the clearest book on diabetes. If you're only going to buy one book I recommend "The 30-Day Diabetes Miracle." Best of luck to you in your quest for health.

This book breaks down the nutritional aspect of controlling the sugars and starches in ones diet. Most understandable.
