Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - No room for gray area- still, it's good historical fiction
While overall I liked the book, still, some niggling thoughts ate at the corner of my mind as I made my way through Exodus.

Whereas this book is fiction, my assumption is that historical fiction is based on fact. I tend to believe that what Uris put down is very close to fact. What worried me is that it isn't. Why?Every Jew good, every Arab bad. (As well as the British who colonized Palestine at the time of Israel's independence.) That's too cut and dry for me. In every conflict there ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A Heart-Pounding Homage
Earlier this month, I led my family on a trip through Israel. It seemed only fitting to read "Exodus" as a companion guide, but I expected it to be more entertainment than enlightenment. I was wrong.

This popular novel by Leon Uris serves as a poignant reminder of the toils and tribulations leading up to Israel's modern statehood. From the birth of Zionism, to British betrayals, to the Holocaust and the millions left floundering afterward, the last century of Jewish history was a decisive ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Unquestionably THE Best Book on the 1948 reestablishment of Israel!
I have always had an interest in Jewish history. This stems from my faith, as Christianity owes its start to Judiasm. In addition, I have often wondered why the Jews have been persecuted for millenia, and how, depsite the tremendous odds, they were able to come together as a nation, after over 2,000 years of dispersion. To me, the reestablishment of Israel is a modern-day miracle, and I desperately wanted to know how such a "miracle" occured. Who were the key people? What historical events precipitated ... Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - One of Urises better novels.
Yea it has some cheezines and cliches. But there is nothing in its depiction of the British and Arabs that can be called racist or maliciously written.

The fact is, the Arabs as depicted in the book are still the same Arabs today. Orwellian propaganda such as staging fake funerals where the corpse falls off the bier and then gets back on. Lying to themselves, lying to the world. Telling people that the Temples never existed on the Moriah mountain even though previous Wakifs handed out pamphlets ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A story for the millenium
Consistant with the extremely high quality of all of his work, Exodus is likely the pinnacle for Uris. The story as fiction is compelling to the last sentence. That it is framed in a context of the real events of the times brings unignorable history to the view of readers now three generations later.

Dealving into the incredible chemistry that makes the middle east an emotional as well as a physical time bomb, it is not too difficult to separate fact from fiction and in the telling of this story, ... Read More
