- Works for my family
While no method is for everyone, as a dad, all I can say is that this book has worked wonderfully for my family. We live overseas and my kids are in the local public school. They receive NO English education at school, so teaching English is totallydone at home. My two oldest learned to read by this method, and now we are doing it with our third. (Yes, we will do it with our fourth in a few years, too.) It works well for us, and the kids are reading on their own.

***If you try this book and have trouble and get mad/impatient - don't fret!Just try something else!***
My Husband, Mother, and I tried very hard to teach my 5 year-old to read using this book.BELIEVE me - this is NOT 100 EASY Lessons. For us, the lessons were grueling.Technically, I think this book is accurate, right, etc - but none of us could do this well. The style is boring, the stories are weird and don't make sense, which frustrated our daughter. You have to have A LOT of patience ... - It Worked for Us!
After unsuccessfully trying several 'learn to read' sets of books as well as a very expensive phonics system, I bought this book and did a lesson every night with my five year old son. Each lesson took 15 to 30 minutes, depending on his focus and sometimes he became frustrated but in the end, he learned to read with confidence. The book's script for the parent makes teaching very easy and the little steps that are given to the children allows for slow but steady progress. The early lessons allow the child ... Read More

- Fantastic Book
I used this with both of my children when they were 5 (my daughter is now 14 and my son is 11).They both are great readers with excellent comprehension and I believe this book had a lot to do with it.My son was 9 when the final Harry Potter book was released in July 2007.He read the entire book (784 pages) the first day he had it!I couldn't believe he was comprehending if he was reading that fast, but I quizzed him on several chapters as I read it (a lot more slowly) and he had comprehended it.

- My avid reader
I taught my daughter to read with this book when she was 6 years old. Her 1st grade teacher was very inadequate so I had to take things into my own hands. I taught her to read in 3 months. Her teacher was astonished that she jumped grade levels so quickly(no thanks to her).I found this book at the library and kept on renewing it until we completed the 100 lessons. She was amazed that she was able to read so quickly. She is now 12 years old and a straight A student that loves reading.
