- Transitioning made easier....
It is never easy transitioning into a new position, but this book makes it a little easier. In the next year I will be transitioning into a new position and I feel this book gave me a lot of insight as well as confirmed some of my thoughts. The bad news is that a lot of it is common sense and very general. If you are transitioning into a term position, this book may not be as helpful because it assumes a more corporate role. The good news is that even still, you should find it useful and helpful. ... Read More

- I did not learn anything new from this book
I felt "The First 90 Days" was full of common sense on how to succeed in a new position. It also offered half hearted examples of why some executives failed. For instance, some of the advice I paraphrased below:
- Figure out what makes your employees tick and how they fit into the role you have for them.
- Understand that what helped you succeed in the last position might be your downfall in the new position.
- Identify those who support or oppose you or who could do either ... Read More
Rating:
- Useful for any level
This book is interesting because it tries to illustrate a number of transition scenarios, not just restricted to upper management. It introduced some good background on the difficulties of immersion into a new environment, and specific tasks to perform. I could see this being useful more generally for people who are just starting on a new job. A good read.
(I have not read the other book mentioned by other reviewers so I cannot do a direct comparison.)
Rating:
- A must have
This is one of the best books I have read regarding a transition to a new job or position.I am going to read it again because there were so many take aways.Highly recommend it.
Rating:
- Good guideline
This book is easy to read and contains tips that I find helpful. A lot of it is common sense, but this book adds structure and makes it systematic. I particularly like Chapter 3 (Match Strategy to Situation), Chapter 6 (Achieve Alignment), and, of course, the concluding chapter. The diagram on page 100 (Diagnostic Framework for Managing Change) is also helpful.
