Four hundred illuminating photographs highlight the crafters as each one demonstrates all the details of his or her particular expertise. Marvel at the beauty of Dolph Smith’s sculptural books, the exquisite structure of Jim Croft’s carved wood covers and metal closures, the intricacies of Barbara Mauriello’s handmade boxes and slipcases, and the secrets of Carol Barton’s playful pop-ups. Reflective essays by all the artists add to the creative excitement visible on every page and in every spectacular project.

- Beautiful Books
This book is a wonder of the book maker's art.It is not a basic how-to, but beautifully rendered collection of photographs which depict the ingenuity of the artisan/artists who both prize and create the rare and the extraordinary.Worth having if you are a bibliophile and share the artist's soul.

For the fine artist interested in making handmade books, you must get this book! Photos detail inspiring creations by artist who take the book form to new levels, including sculpture. The best part is each artist provides a "hands on" section that shows you how they make a particular book, including binding techniques, leather, wood, and even more unusual materials. This is the craft at it's finest.
