Amazon.com:
Rebecca is an ageless, timeless adult movie about a woman who marries a widower but fears she lives in the shadow of her predecessor. This was Hitchcock's first American feature, and it garnered the Best Picture statue at the 1941 Academy Awards. In today's films, most twists and surprises are ridiculous or just gratuitous, so it's sobering to look back on this film where every revelation not only shocks, but makes organic sense with the story line. Laurence Olivier is dashing and weak, fierce and cowed. Joan Fontaine is strong yet submissive, defiant yet accommodating. There isn't a false moment or misstep, but the film must have killed the employment outlook of any women named Danvers for about 20 years. Brilliant stuff. --Keith Simanton

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Wonderful Gothic Suspense from Hitchcock
It's fitting that Alfred Hitchcock would direct a film like Rebecca. With the Gothic elements abounding in the film, which is based on Daphne De Maurier's novel, the master of suspense treats us to a wonderfully atmospheric ride of mystery. I haven't read the novel Rebecca, so I found that the "secret" revealed later in the film to be a surprise. Rebecca is similar to a tale like Jane Eyre, where we have the simple girl marrying an older man, but once arriving to a mysterious house, finding that ... Read More

A classic Gothic Romance. A beautiful love story that can be watched and enjoyed over and over.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Not for me
I will admit, I was not impressed with this film. It just did not work for me. The entire time I was thinking when will it end?I'm sure others will enjoy it. But it was too slow of a storyline to keep me wanting to watch it or care about the key players.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A romantic thriller with a surprising twist
Rebecca was the first Hollywood film that Alfred Hitchcock directed. The casting and acting are supberb. A handsome widower,(Laurence Olivier) his shy, young bride (Joan Fontaine) and the resident evil housekeeper (Judith Anderson) all living together in the magnificant estate called Manderley. How could his new bride ever hope to compete with his beautiful dead wife? "Everyone adored Rebecca". Fontaine won a Best Actress Oscar for her work and rightly so. It is so fasinating to me that she doesn't even ... Read More
