As it turned out, Led Zeppelin's infamous 1969 debut album was indicative of the decade to come--one that, fittingly, this band helped define with its decadently exaggerated, bowdlerized blues-rock. In shrieker Robert Plant, ex-Yardbird Jimmy Page found a vocalist who could match his guitar pyrotechnics, and the band pounded out its music with swaggering ferocity and Richter-scale-worthy volume. Pumping up blues classics such as Otis Rush's "I Can't Quit You Baby" and Howlin' Wolf's "How Many More Times" into near-cartoon parodies, the band also hinted at things to come with the manic "Communication Breakdown" and the lumbering set stopper "Dazed and Confused." --Billy Altman

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Lead Flying Machine?
It doesn't make sense to make a flying machine made out of one of the heaviest metals on Earth but I guess that answers the plea for reinvention of an era that was wearing itself out. Led Zeppeling was a fresh burst of music that only happens once in a millenium, and althouth truthfully im tired of them, or more so of their glory, admitting that the 1st is a fun and energetic voyage doesn't add any more to what has already been said million times. All you have to do is just click on the PLAY button ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Album that started it all.
I'm a younger fan of Led Zeppelin. Younger compared to the fans that were around when this album came out anyway. I'm 38, and didn't get into Zeppelin until '87 or so. Even so, this album is so awesome that it simply doesn't sound dated to me at all. A must.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Led Zeppelin 1
I think it's sad that one "Tormented" soul took paragraph after paragraph to let us all know what a bad album this is. Lucky for us, we all know better. I'm one of the really lucky ones to have heard this when it originally came out, and let me tell those of you who might not know, it was a blockbuster. As a matter of fact it still holds up very well and about the closest any modern band came come to it is to use samples of it in their talentless compositions. Hit the drum loops boyz!(Of course someone ... Read More

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - This record gives me the blues
Oh well, here I find myself at the mighty, towering altar of yet another washed up, brigade of ex-junkie geriatric relics of the 70's. 2009 marks a momentous year in the long, long history of this band from across the pond. For starters, it is the 40th anniversary of their debut album. 40 years old and believe me, it sounds it as well. There is certain music and certain musicians who simply have neither the brains, creativity, or originality to offer something that can't instantaneously be pinned down to ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Studio album option better than compilations...69.1201/100

Can't say that I have ever been tempted to buy a Led Zeppelin studio album. Seeing as they were a major band, I went down the "compilation album" route, and that really didn't impress me enough to check out their studio albums. Of all their studio albums, I suppose that their debut was the one I'd be least keen on getting.

What changed? Well, I thought I'd explore the origins of heavy metal. Within the last month or so, one music magazine celebrated the 40th anniversary of the birth ... Read More
