Although it's a budget model, the JVC XL-FZ258BK five-disc carousel player still satisfies many requirements for ergonomic operation and quality sound reproduction. JVC equips the XL-FZ258BK with play exchange, which lets you change any four discs while one is playing. An optical digital output lets you record direct to CD-R or minidisc for pure digital copies and also facilitates integration with a surround receiver and home theater.
JVC has long been recognized for its dedication to high sound quality. Accordingly, this player offers JVC's exclusive P.E.M. D.D. (Pulse Edge Modulation Differential-Linearity-Errorless) digital-to-analog (D/A) converter, touted by many as one of the most accurate and "musical" one-bit D/As available. Nice controls, a solid chassis, easy to use remote.The standout feature for me is that the transport is absolutely silent when playing---no hiss or hum from the motors (I mean if you put your ear up to the component itself---not the lack of noise on the audio outputs, which should be a given with any but the cheapest disc player).The error-correction algorithms are excellent---I played some badly scratched CDs that other players could not handle and could barely hear the data interpolation at ... Nice cd player, I have owned it for a while and I have had no problems, I replaced a single disc player so I really like this 5 disc one.

After many years of faithful service, I finally had to replace my old Sony 5 disc changer.I looked at the available options and this one came the closet to what I had before.It is easy to work and has just the features I needed.Price couldn't be better either.Few local stores carried this type of CD changer, so Amazon is definitely the way to go.

I purchased the JVC XL-FZ258BK about 10 months ago and like other reviewers have commented, I don't understand the negative reviews. Its an integral part of our home theatre system which consists of the Samsung LN-4661F flat panel LCD, Onkyo TX-SR605 receiver, Infinity Beta 40 fronts,Infinity C250 center channel,Infinity 300 Watt Subwoofer, and three Infinity TSS-1200 satellite speakers.

I love this changer, it does everything I want it to do. It can do random playing as well as straight forward and continuous play which means I can listen to a variety of music for hours.
