Product Description:
Dull blades not only give poor results and require more effort on the part of the chef, they are also far more likely to be the cause of injury than sharp blades. A sharp blade is not nearly as likelly to slide off the side of a vegetable and into your fingers. Keep those edges honed!
Amazon.com Review:
A classic tool that helps get the best from knives, this sharpening steel is a solidly crafted addition to any knife block. Between professional sharpenings, tiny metal fibers bend down on a blade, dulling the surface. The purpose of the sharpening steel is to straighten up those fibers, maintaining the sharpest edge possible for daily use. This model is lightweight, with a flared handle and a tapered edge. It's extremely comfortable and well balanced for experienced users, but beginners may have an easier time with a more substantial weight. Just wipe it down as necessary--there's no need to give this tool a serious scrub. --Jill Lightner

Rating:
- sharpener
Bought it to bring back to Seoul, Korea second residence.Nothing similar there at a reasonable price.Already had one here in the US.
Rating:
- Bad description
As other reviewers have commented, this straightens a blade. It does not "sharpen" a blade, meaning to grind the edge.
Additionally, I wonder if the old adage made in the description has any basis in fact that " . . . they [dull blades] are also far more likely to be the cause of injury than sharp blades."Seems like nifty marketing to me.I'd love to see an actual study that supports the marketing.I've never been cut by a dull blade, only sharp ones.
Rating:
- Great Honer for the Price
I have fairly expensive knives that loose their edge. I have a hand sharpener that works well but now that I have the honer to go with it my knives are razor sharp.
Rating:
- Great quality and value sharpening steel
This is a very good high quality sharpening steel. For the price that you get it for, it far exceeds expectations.
The length of this steel is great for just about any typical knife you will have in the kitchen.Additionally, this feels sturdy and does the job well. The steel is used to straighten the knife edge and running the knife along it every once in a while will keep your knives sharp.
I highly recommend this sharpening steel for everyone as it is a good product ... Read More

- Please stop calling this a sharpener.
Product description is inaccurate, a steel honer does not make your knife sharper, it is used to bring the damaged parts of the blade back into alignment. It does not sharpen, and if used excessively and incorrectly actually does the opposite.
