While scoring high-profile credits as a screenwriter (including The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and Raiders of the Lost Ark), Lawrence Kasdan made his directorial debut with this steamy, contemporary film noir in the tradition of Double Indemnity and other classics from the 1940s. In one of his most memorable roles, William Hurt plays a Florida lawyer unwittingly drawn into a web of deceit spun by Kathleen Turner (in her screen debut) as a married socialite who plots to kill off her husband with Hurt's assistance. Kasdan's dialogue is a hoot (sometimes it borders on satire), and the sultry atmosphere is a perfect complement to the perspiration-soaked chemistry between Hurt and Turner, whose love scenes caused quite a stir when the film was released in 1981. John Barry's score sets the provocative mood, and both Ted Danson and Mickey Rourke are splendid in memorable supporting roles. --Jeff Shannon

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - BODY HEAT REVIEW
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. It has a sultry background with steamy sex scenes and twists to the plot that you never anticipate. It reminds me of a R rated 40's movie. Love it!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The most perfect movie ever made.
As a screenwriting instructor, I use this film to illustrate the best in screenwriting. This film is as close to perfection as is possible. My students see it through new eyes and realize that this gem of a movie has it all: incredible dialogue, twists and turns, a suspenseful plot, and great characters. If you're a film buff, then this is one movie you have to see.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Film Noir at its Best
In many ways this is a remake of "Double Indemnity", the classic 1940s film about an insurance adjuster who schemes with his lover to bump off the husband. What that film lacked, partly because of the limitations of MacMurray as an actor and partly by reason of the codes of the day, was a convincing explanation for the man's motivation.

This film provides it.It is in many ways the ultimate guy's movie:who wouldn't sell his soul for what Kathleen Turner has to offer? The sex scenes ... Read More

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - A sultry movie
I loved this movie, although this isn't a movie for everyone. First it's a mystery that's predictable. Second, there are no special effects and not a lot of action. To anyone under 30 it would be old fashion. Made in 1981 it is the kind of story that was common in the 40's. Having said that, Kathleen Turner shines as a connivingsex goddess and displays as much nudity as any modern movie. This was a really big deal when it came out. John Hurt is totally smitten with her but what about the rich husband?

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - I love Kathleen Turner, and I love this movie!
Matty Walker wants rid of her wealthy husband in the worst way, as a matter of fact, she wants him dead. Seducing a naive lawyer named Ned Racine, the two plot the man's death, and carry it through. But, before they know it, their over-the-rainbow begins to slip inexorably out of their grip, and the hounds begin their pursuit.

This is an excellent movie, well-known for its dark themes and erotic sensuousness. It launched Kathleen Turner's acting career, and showed how seductive and sexy a woman ... Read More
