- Captains and the Kings
Very well written and acted. It is interesting to see some of the actors who moved on to greater works. I highly recommend this DVD.

I watched captains and the kings at tv in the 70s and it was so emotional
to see it again now.
A perfect Ritchard Jordan under a great production even for todays standards.
And so many great actors.
The quality of the dvds is perfect.The colours better then 30 years i saw it.

For a realistic view of the lot of Irish immigrants in the nineteenth century, this series is excellent.However, one must take with a grain of salt the idea of a conspiracy among oil tycoons and bankers and like people to control the government through bribery or assassination.Taylor Caldwell always was a bit suspicious of anyone with power.

God it is awful. The rags to riches story of a immigrant is an intereting angle but it is overshadowed by hours of cheap melodrama about things that might be considered a scandal in the 19th century but just make you yawn now. There is a lot of yearning by a young man for a married woman and then later illicit love affairs between in-laws and people of mixed race from the south. A pregnant woman even falls down the stairs in slow motion after being pushed by her drunken husband. I knew she was going ... Read More
