Covering a turkey or joint of meat steams or braises rather than roasts, and placing it into a pan without a rack causes the lower part to boil in juices--that's why a rack is essential for proper roasting. I spent 3 months looking at local stores for a roasting rack that had handles on the sides rather than on the ends for better ease of handling when you are roasting a large bird.I couldn't find what I was looking for (unless I wanted to also buy an expensive roasting pan, which I don't need), so I turned to amazon.com.This inexpensive rack works perfectly, and it just fits inside a 9x13" pan, which is perfect for roasting a small bird.

This rack is no doubt a good rack, but it does not fit the pan for which it is recommended. In the future, do not sell this rack with the roasting pan. Find a smaller rack that might fit the pan.

I've had this rack for over a year now and I've used it many, many times. It's a roasting necessity for a beautiful holiday turkey, everyday chicken, or fabulous sirloin roast (gives you uniform roasting by allowing heat to circulate around the meat and preventing the lower portion of your roast or bird from boiling in it's own juices at the bottom of the roasting pan). I've been looking for the perfect roasting rack for some time now and this is it. It's heavy weight and the entirely covered in a smooth, non-stick coating. The lifting handles are fixed in place but quite generous, allowing room for an oven mitt on your hand. I really like that the "ribs" are thick but widely spaced. They still support your food well but fewer "ribs" are easier to clean when you're done, although it is dishwasher-safe. Definitely the quality you expect from Calphalon. This rack comes ...
