Amazon.com Review:
This high-temperature thermometer takes the guesswork out of deep-frying chicken, doughnuts, and french fries or making jelly, fudge, or butterscotch. Its easy-to-read 8-inch face measures temperatures from 100 to 400 degrees F. The face shows proper candy-making temperatures, from "thread" to "hard crack." An adjustable clip on the insulated handle secures the thermometer to a pan. Made of stainless steel with a shatterproof plastic lens, the thermometer measures 12 inches long overall and is dishwasher-safe. --Fred Brack

- What more could you want?
I bought this item at a local (nationally owned) grocery store in a pinch because I wanted to try my hand at making my own potato chips. I'd wanted something like this before because i like to fry foods and do a lot of outdoor cooking with my turkey fryer.
I've used quite a few times now, and I wonder where all the negative stink (AKA, reviews) is coming from. I've noticed no disappearance of markings (something that seems to bother a lot of reviewers of lots of other fine items that ... Read More

- A thermometer without #'s is No Good
The numbers rub/washed off after two sessions. However, since I use it so rarely, it was too late to send back.
Rating:
- Dependable Thermometer
I got this temperature indicator because I needed one that immersed in the hot oil without hitting the bottom of the pan and was protected from breakage. I also needed one that responded quickly to temperature changes and this one does just that. The cost was reasonable, while others seemed way overpriced.

I use this product frequently the only problem is that the lettering rapidly wipes away.

- Numbers washed OFF!
After having washed this thermometer in the top rack of the dishwasher (which I'm pretty sure the packaging said was okay), all the numbers indicating temperature smudged completely off.Other than being completely numberless, it's a great design!
