Anyone who has an interest in his or her golf game besides, "Did I hitit straight this time?" will find some use in Golfwits Pro. This useful littleprogram aims to help you document every drive, chip, pitch, and puttso that you can improve your game. We don't think that's toolofty a goal.
You can use Golfwits solely on your desktop PC, and you can also sync it up withyour Pocket PC (Windows CE) handheld device so you can take Golfwits with youwhile you're on the course. It also comes with a free Palm Organizer versionthat you can download from the Golfwits Web site. We chose to do the install forPalm Organizers and sync Golfwits up with our Handspring Visor Deluxe. There arenotes about this all over the Golfwits Web site, but just in case you miss them,be sure to do a HotSync with your handheld twice, so that it picks up both theprogram and the maps.
Which leads us to the maps. They are really the strength of the Golfwitsprogram. From the Golfwits Web site, you can access thousands of course maps allover the country (as well as a few other countries including Canada). A quicksearch for courses in the Seattle area turned up nearly every course we werefamiliar with--only one of our favorites was missing. However, the Golfwitsfolks seem open to suggestions, so if you request a map of your favorite course,they will most likely produce it.
Mastering Golfwits--especially on your handheld--will take some time. We had tosit down with it for a while before we got the hang of how to access statisticsand record our ball position and ball path on the course, so we advise that youwork with it and the online manual a bit before you hit the fairways. (Not tomention, it took us a while to figure out how to make the maps we downloadedsync up with our Visor--again, read the manual carefully.) But when on thecourse, once you're done recording ball position and club used, Golfwitscalculates everything else for you: remaining distance to the hole, score, andoverall game statistics.
You can also input data into Golfwits on your desktop, but this seems like asecondary function. The biggest benefit of the desktop version seems to bechecking statistics once you've completed a round on the course, and using thatinformation to improve your game. But if you're using Golfwits without a PDA,you can print out a Pro Book of your selected course from the Golfwitsinterface, take this scorecard with you, and then come back and input the gamemanually into Golfwits. Another function that's pretty impressive is the optionto e-mail your game to friends--though we only recommend this function if youactually played well.

- Very good Item, if creator hadn't shut down website
There is no way to download courses for this product now, I paid for multiple course downloads and now the site is defunct and I only got half the course I paid for.

The product is not working. I sent numereous emails to support without success. The website loads whenever. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY.

- Inaccurate Course Descriptions
This is a terrific tool but some of the course maps had outdated information. For example, Phantom Horse Golf Course was remodeled 2 years ago but the information in Pro 2.0 still reflects the old layout.

I initially wanted to purchase the software for my palm. At $40-50 it's a little more expensive, but the way they analyze seems worth it. Til I saw the real costs, the maps are not free! They costs $10 each, and if not made already, $20 each. One map can cost more than some of the other golf softwares out there. They do have Mapwits software, which with some effort on your part create your own maps, but it's only available when you buy the pro bundle, $90. If creating your own maps is a bit much ... This product has potential, but not even the best of breed is worth buying if the support is not there. And that is certainly the case with this company. During my evaluation, I had to send my first email three times, and my second email just never got a reply. Forget it!The product also lacks basic data capture on courses and players too.
