Amazon.com Review:
The 26 letters of the alphabet equal 26 opportunities to explore, listen, and learn in Alphabet Express Preschool. Add to this a handful ofadded-on games, imaginative short films, and freeform activities, and thisCD-ROM has both appeal and staying power.
As a trainload of critters chugs around the onscreen alphabet, kids click on aletter, and uppercase and lowercase versions fly, bounce, or pour onto the scenein a Sesame Street moment. The letters dissolve to a garden scene forG, an orchestra for O, and so forth. Click on the onion in theorchestra pit, and a kid's voice intones "Onion!" while the squirrel holding thething begins to cry piteously. There are similar scenes for every letter of thealphabet--though designers cheated a bit and combined X, Y, andZ. Kids can also paint different alphabet-emphasizing pictures, play asounding-out/letter-matching game, and look at instructions on how to write eachletter. A separate section of activities includes find-the-hidden-letter games,dot-to-dots that teach alphabetizing, and mazes that must be conquered bymatching objects to their beginning letter. Finally, and most delightfully, there's a movie theater where kids can watch a couple of priceless animatedshorts: one is a James Brown-esque ditty belted out by a chicken, listing the(alphabetized) items that make Hearty Chicken Alphabet Soup so special. Anchors, basketballs, and carburetors are a few of the secret ingredients.
The animation in Alphabet Express isn't smooth, but the audio is lush:O's orchestra section is replete with the dissonant sound of stringstuning up before the symphony; the tired old ABC song gets a hip-hop makeover; ahost of different (and non-annoying) kid and adult voices pronounce letters andguide visitors. Even if this weren't a strong CD-ROM, it'd be worth checkingout, just to learn the remaining ingredients in Hearty Chicken Alphabet Soup.(Ages 3 to 6) --Anne Erickson

- One of the best learning games on Mac and PC
Unlike one other commenter, we've enjoyed this game on three separate Macs. One running Panther (OS X 10.3), one running Tiger (OS X 10.4), and one running Leopard (OS X 10.5).Do not shy away from this game because one commenter couldn't seem to run it!
All three of our kids absolutely love this game!It certainly helped our two oldest learn to read before kindergarten (on their own mostly). Our youngest is now enthralled with the game, so we're hopeful he'll follow in his siblings' ... Read More

I don't have much experience with other kids' educational games, but this one has certainly captured the attention of our 4 year old twins. It's colorful, fun, and educational. The price seemed right.

My grandson really enjoys this program so I'm happy. The graphics and audio are outstanding and the programs are easy to navigate through. The only thing I don't like is after each little exercise you have to go back to the main menu to start another one even when you stay in the same program/category.Anyway, it has captured my grandson's attention and I have seen vast improvement in his letter recognition and he is starting to spell words now.I think his favorite program is finding the hidden letters ... - Great Product
My daughter is 3 1/2 years old and she loves playing with this. She has really mastered the mouse and moving around from screen to screen.I can definitely see an increase in her letter recognition and her curiosity to know what letter do things start with. She asks to do her alaphabet all the time.
