Amazon.com essential recording:
1989's Straight Outta Compton, by Dre's previous outfit N.W.A., may have shined the public spotlight on the genre, but The Chronic legitimized it. That is not to say that Snoop Doggy Dogg (The Chronic marks his debut) and Dre's raps are for everyone; the subject matter is the sex, drugs, violence, and politics of South Central Los Angeles, and the phrasing is explicit, to say the least. But The Chronic's real genius is the music. By breeding hip-hop, jazz (studio instrumentation includes saxophones and flutes), funk, and soul (sampled artists include Parliament, Donny Hathaway, and Isaac Hayes), Dre creates downright intoxicating grooves. If you can't feel The Chronic pulsating through your veins, maybe your heart's not pumping. --Bill Crandall

Average Rating: out of 5 stars
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - One of the Greatest Ever!
When The Chronic comes to mind a lot of people think "One of the greatest rap albums of all time." I have to agree because this is one of the CD's that I listen to the most. My 3 favorite tracks are: "Nuthin' But a 'G' Thang" "Deeez Nuuuts" and "Dre Day"
"Nuthin' But a 'G' Thang" is a straight up classic where Snoop tears up the track at such an early stage in his career
"Deeez Nuuuts" has got to be my favorite beat Dr. Dre produced and Nate Dogg singing here is a perfect fit to the song ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - great
The CD came in great condition, but a little slower than expected.Good transaction.I would buy from them again.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Its more about the beats.
This cd is such a classic but not because of the lyricism which only helps the outcome of the product but its about the beats. Dr. Dre is a producer not a lyricist so if your rating this on Dr Dre's rhymin abilites then your missin the whole objective of this album. This album is showcasing Dr Dres production skills. He is such a genius behind the boards and his masterful intertwining of live instrumentation is just refreshing. Hate him or love him Dr. Dres Chronic will always be a defining moment in ... Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Dr. Dre -A Classic Album
What can be said that hasn't been already about this album? It is a banger from Intro to the last song. The guest appearances from the likes of Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg, Lady of Rage, RBX and Kurupt are fantastic and this album truly does stand the test of time.

The word classic is thrown around and used too often these days to describe albums by the likes of 50 Cent (I do not consider Get Rich...as a classic-overrated).

My favorite tracks include: F**k wit Dre Day (great diss ... Read More

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - there are some classic tracks, but this is super overrated
don't get me wrong, there is some AWESOME stuff on here, but there's a bunch of trash on here too. this is one of those things that so many people like that others might feel afraid to say they're not super into it. "let me ride" still has, no questions asked, the best hip hop beat ever made.
