Sergeant tom highway a hardened tough veteran of korea and vietnam returns to the united states for his last tour of duty with the u.S. Marine corps. He is assigned to training a recon unit.Studio: Warner Home VideoRelease Date: 11/13/2007Starring: Clint Eastwood Bo SvensonRun time: 130 minutesRating: RDirector: Clint Eastwood
Amazon.com essential video:
The controversial, Reagan-era invasion of Grenada by U.S. troops is, oddly enough, at the center of this initially interesting story of a seasoned Marine sergeant (Clint Eastwood) routinely insulted by younger officers for being a symbol of the war that America "lost" in Vietnam. Looking for both a victory and a little redemption, Eastwood's character trains a squadron of scrappy pups and turns them into fighting grunts, just in time to follow White House orders and take the little island. Marsha Mason plays Eastwood's love interest, and Mario Van Peebles is funny as an undisciplined con artist who joins Clint's men and finally catches the spirit after getting his butt kicked a few times. --Tom Keogh

- You're Marines now. You adapt. You overcome. You improvise.
THE WAR:Grenada, not much of an obstacle in the grand scheme of things, but it's a perfect redemption opportunity for a hardened Vietnam vet whipping a group of slackers into Marines.
STORY: Through a glass-swallowing voice, Gunnery Sergeant Tom "Gunny" Highway (Eastwood) exudes the strength, experience, and military behaviorisms expected of a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam war, not to mention the Medal of Honor pinned on his chest. When he confronts his new, less than military ... - Poor by Clint's high standards but
Along with The Rookie its probably the worst film Clint Eastwood ever directed. However I've given it 4 stars because it IS hugely entertaining and even though he was 56 when this was made Clint looks great in the role.
The film is too long at 125mins, but for the first hour and a half you will get to see and hear Clint deliver some classic lines. He spits and chews people out. I also think this is the first film where Clint used that gruff voice that has subsequently become a trademark, ... Read More

- Nothing To See Here, Move Along...
This has to be Eastwood's worst film. I can't even imagine how this production got the green light. There must have been better material out there for this type of theme.
First, as a former Marine, it was embarrasing to see the Corps portrayed like this. As far as I know when you combine the word "Marine" with the word "recon" you imagine a unit radically different than the boy scout rejects in this platoon.
I guess if this were considered a "military fantasy" of some sort a ... Read More

- One of the best Eastwood's movie
This is probably one of the best Clint Eastwood movies I have seen. It's classic and so well done.
Rating:
- Does the corps proud, and unproud
I was serving in the Marine Corps when this first came out. Many of us used to kick back and jeer at the discrepancies in it. Such as, The bulk of the story takes place at Camp Lejuene N.C. and it was filmed at Camp Pendleton Ca. The terrain at the two bases is radically different. Eastwood's platoon of recon marines is depicted as a ragtag crew of slackers. Marine force reconaissance is an elite ,all volunteer force in league with Army rangers and Navy SEALS. It's doubtful that such an unruly recon platoon ... Read More
