Product Description:
Based on the broadway musical two women convicted of murder in the 1920s become celebrities by manipulating the media.Studio: Buena Vista Home VideoRelease Date: 01/12/2007Starring: Renee Zellweger Richard GereRun time: 113 minutesRating: Pg13Director: Rob Marshall
Amazon.com:
Bob Fosse's sexy cynicism still shines in Chicago, a faithful movie adaptation of the choreographer-director's 1975 Broadway musical. Of course the story, all about merry murderesses and tabloid fame, is set in the Roaring '20s, but Chicago reeks of '70s disenchantment--this isn't just Fosse's material, it's his attitude, too. That's probably why the movie's breathless observations on fleeting fame and fickle public taste already seem dated. However, Renée Zellweger and Catherine Zeta-Jones are beautifully matched as Jazz Age vixens, and Richard Gere gleefully sheds his customary cool to belt out a showstopper. (Yes, they all do their own singing and dancing.) Whatever qualms musical purists may have about director Rob Marshall's cut-cut-cut style, the film's sheer exuberance is intoxicating. Given the scarcity of big-screen musicals in the last 25 years, that's a cause for singing, dancing, cheering. And all that jazz. --Robert Horton

Rating:
- O Star
Zero Star.
Nothing redeemable here. Bad people behaving, singing, and dancing badly and getting away with it on film, in the box-office, and with the Academy.
It is slick...but so, too, is a film of oil on an aeration pond in a sewage treatment facility. Regarding this putrescent monolayer; flush it.

- Best Picture? Not even close...
Speaking of Rene Zellweger, that just reminded me that I also recently watched this movie for the first time. Unfortunately, it did nothing for me (and I tend to actually like musicals!). I can't believe this won all those awards (Best Picture???). It looked great, and the acting was good, but I never gathered any sympathy or empathy with any of the characters, and the music itself didn't do much for me either.

- My alltime favorite movie

- Alright but Overrated
How can I describe the most overrated musical of all time? Well it was good I'll give it that. Everyone could sing except Zellwegger. She looks likes she's squinting half the time and she's off key the other half. Secondly, the musical numbers are staged in a distracting way. Instead of being straight forward sequences, we are jarringly taken out of the main story and thrust onto the stage where the songs are being performed, thus proving that this musical was not really meant to leave the stage, ...
