The 6-inch blade of this example provides sufficient heft to allow the knife rather than the cook to do most of the cutting labor; its relatively small blade length makes it ideal for slicing, cubing, and all but the largest chopping jobs. - Perfect size for day to day jobs
The 6" Wusthof Classic Cook's knife is the perfect size for day to day chopping.I found the 8" Chef's knife far too large (I prefer the 7" chef's knife or cleaver), but 6 inches is the ideal size.

- Great Knife, But small
I would recommend you purchase and 8 inch chef's knife and learn to properly hold a knife and you'll discover that when doing so you're not gripping the handle, in fact, you will only need about half the length of the handle. You will then discover that even though the 8 inch looks too long it then becomes the right size.

Originally I had the Wüsthof 8-Inch Cook's Knife (which came with the Wüsthof 10 pc. Classic set). Finally, I realized that the 8-Inch Cook's Knife was just too large & "intimidating" for me, esp. to just chop a couple of onions or bell peppers now & then. I bought the 6-Inch Cook's Knife & it's a much better size for me, my tiny 1-person-cook kitchen, & my relatively modest cooking skills.
I'm a big Wüsthof fan now, & personally I'm partial to the Classic line. Oh, & I sold the 8-Inch ... Read More

Let me just open up by saying that this is is a great knife, no matter which way you slice it.I had wondered if this knife was going to cut it and be worth the cost; after poking around, I heard that it was.This thing chops through onions awesomely!That is great for me because onions make me cry when I cut them, so the quicker I can slash through them, the better.One thing though is that I normally remove the outer layer of the onion instead of washing it.My g/f says that I should wash it too ...
