Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Bad container design.. Crack and leak!
The vacuum seal concept is great. It allow me to save left over much longer. But all the hard plastic containers are badly design. All of my containers (various shape and size) failed within four months of usage. All of them develop cracks. The bad thing about it, Food Saver does not sell the container by itself. You have to buy both the lid and container together. The only container that can withstand the usage are those soft plastic lunch containers. I guess softer plastic allow it to flex and ... Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - The Salsa Spill of 2009
It was bound to happen; it was only a matter of time. Making home made salsa is something we love to do. I decided to store some in a medium canister and vacuum seal it. Well, we knew the top was not the place to hold in picking up the canister when it was full. The top comes off! But one morning I forgot and picked up the salsa by the topof the container and the resulting spill of bright red immediately decorated my kitchen from inside the refrigerator to halfway across the kitchen floor. I was ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Product works well but must be used wisely.
I've owned this set and several others for more than 5 years, and I've never had a problem with cracking or loss of seal. That said, I do recommend 1) never washing tops or bottoms in the dishwasher; 2) do not use them in microwave to heat or reheat food; 3) limit use of these products in the freezer because cold is the enemy of all plastics not specifically designed for freezing conditions; and, 4) seal/vacuum as recommended by the manufacturer.

It may seem like I'm suggesting a narrower ... Read More

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Totally Useless Product
These canisters crack from the vacuum created, which means that the plastic does not hold up to what it's supposed to do. I do NOT put them in the dishwasher and hardly use them, yet they have all cracked within a year's use.Jardin will replace one cracked canister as a courtesy. When I asked what I was supposed to do with the others that had cracked, I was told that I could purchase an "extra-durable" set that would stand up to the suction pressure. What a joke!

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Unreliable indeed
I'll pile-on the unreliability bandwagon here. We've bought about 25 Foodsaver canisters since getting our Foodsaver, and maybe 5 of them are still able to hold a seal (and even those, not very well).

Over time, as the user-supplied photo above shows, the canisters crack out from the center of the bottom. Many of ours have done this. They appear not to really be dishwasher safe (the claim is the canisters are dishwasher safe, but the lids are not -- but dishwashing seems to decrease the time ...
