"Like Maxim, but about Xbox!" was clearly the mandate given to Mike Salmon, former editor-in-chief of PC Accelerator and current editor-in-chief of The Official Xbox Magazine. He got it half right: this gamer lifestyle magazine has the locker-room feel of Maxim but lacks Maxim's intelligent, tongue-in-cheek style. The result is something that looks like it was written by high-school sophomores. For example, a bio of Kasumi, a character in the game Dead or Alive 3, reads "A redhead with a difference--she can take on all comers. And if DoA 3 has the "[breast] bounce on/off" option, she'll definitely have a lot of comers." On the plus side, the game reviews and previews are informative and mostly free of bull.--Mike Fehlauer

- Okay for the weekend gamer, but..
If you love the physical aspect of magazines and you're a gamer who loves paging through and grabbing codes, reading up on the upcoming cons, the new devs, getting the monthly demo discs, and you like to read reviews and see screen shots, then this is a good buy.
If you have a good working knowledge of how to use Google, are familiar with the gamer message forums and spend much time in XBox Live, you probably already know what's in the magazine before it's been released.This was ... Read More

- Great if you don't have Xbox Live
The magazine has a good amount of system and game related info and has a lot to offer on the included disc, which includes plenty of trailers, demos, and some downloadable content.
To give an example of one of the articles, my most recent issue had information (and lots of pictures) about the different versions of Xbox360 systems (Xenon, Falcon, Jasper etc..)and it explained how you could tell them apart before buying one.However, for the disc, if you have access to Xbox Live you ... What's not to like ,bought this for my kid half price on Amazon after making other game purchases.For a little over a dollar a month you can see info on upcoming product and maybe save a little by making a more informed buy on your next game,plus so far it's had some kind of demo disc with it each month ,these are worth the price alone!

Kidding, but this is a well written, formatted and edited magazine.I really enjoy the in-depth reviews (even if I don't always agree).But it is in the exclusives and previews where OXM shines!
I know you can get more, up-to-date info online and perhaps more content.But there is both more credibility in printed documents and I find better in-depth analysis.Dependant on the site, you never know what your are really getting online and often I find the articles drab and un-informative ...
