Product Description:
CLINT EASTWOOD STARS AS TRUCKER PHILO BEDDOE, THE BEST BARROOM BRAWLER WEST OF THE ROCKIES, WHO LIVES WITH A 165-POUND ORANGUTAN NAMED CLYDE.
Amazon.com:
Clint Eastwood's 1978 comedy introduces Filo Beddoe, a truck driver and mechanic whose daily life is an absurd grind. He's constantly coming up short on money, love, and anything else to help him get through the day, while also saddled with a loony mother (deliciously played by Ruth Gordon), a best friend (Geoffrey Lewis) who's not too swift on the uptake, and an orangutan named Clyde who fights almost as well as Clint. While moonlighting as a bare-knuckle fighter, Clint finally meets the girl of his dreams (Sondra Locke), a snooty country singer who rebuffs him even as he pursues her, trailed by bikers and brawlers. It's Eastwood's magnetism and charm that make this more than a mere string of comic sketches, and things move along quickly enough to be entertaining, if a little thin. Clyde is a natural scene-stealer, but it's Ruth Gordon's crazy, cranky old coot who steals the movie. --Robert Lane

- Great Blu-Ray Transfer
It was probably in its original HBO run that I last saw this awesome comedy, but I saw it pretty much every time it aired...on a 19" color Zenith.
The Blu-ray transfer is outstanding.Yes, it's grainy during the credit sequences, but it's sharp as a tack otherwise...even in the dark bar scenes. The New Mexico and Colorado scenery looks spectacular. And the Dolby True-HD soundtrack sounds great.I could have never imagined this movie looking this good.

- POOR!!!!
It has been over a month since I ordered this product and I still have not received it! After reading all the reviews for dvdlegacy, it appears they have scammed numerous people. This company sucks!I will never order from them again.

- Lots of Fun
This is a goofy, but very entertaining, Eastwood flick.
I saw it when I was a kid when it first came out and just saw it again. It is as funny as I remembered.
Clint stars as Philo Beddoe, a truck driver who supplements his income fighting in bare knuckles brawls. His faithful sidekicks are his brother Orville and orangutan Clyde. Both add lots to this pictures.Ruth Gordon also gives a memorable performance as his profane and incredibly feisty mother.

- Blu ray
The blu-ray picture is great on this old movie of Clint Eastwood. I was a lot younger when it first came out. It still is a corny movie for Clint.

- Hapless Bikers and Barroom Brawlers
Yes, this movie is dated...the soundtrack is definitly old school counrty/western, but this movie is just too damn fun not to like. If you like rooting for the blue collar everyman who is just trying to get by,this is a flick for you. Good natured and unpretentious to the point of self depreciation, this humble little flick will have you flipping it into your DVD player a couple times a year, I bet. I still can't get enough of the Black Widows. Long live throaty saxaphone and doo wop.
