For well over 10 years I have used Brita, up until 1 year ago. Sadly I can no longer recommend Brita.
Brita once has silver particles in their filters to kill pathogens. No more. But the pathetic FDA can likely be blamed for that.
The real problem with Brita and most other water filters is that they do not remove or even reduce the amount of fluoride in the water at all. As more and more American communities are being informed of the realities of Fluoride in our water, they ... Read More

- Bottled water is a con job
We've been using Brita tap filters for a few years now. As I exercise daily, I consume a lot of water, and the Brita filter helps with the taste of our tap. We have to replace them about once every 3-4 months.

Since then, I have found a disturbing trait of the Brita on-tap filter. It strips chlorine out of Chicago tap water all TOO well.I used to depend on that bleachy pool-fresh scent to keep away the stale ... Read More

- Well Water and Brita Filter
Our water comes from a well, so we do not have the issues associated with city tap water (chlorine taste, etc.). Before reaching our sinks, the water passes through two paper filter systems and an ultra violet light system. Still, the taste of the water varies by season (assuming due to run off) and at times contains sediment that makes the water cloudy or off color. The water from the kitchen sink where the Brita Filter is installed almost always runs clear now and the taste is pretty consistent.
