The story of a close-knit group of young kids in nazi germany who listen to banned swing music from the usStudio: Buena Vista Home VideoRelease Date: 09/03/2002Starring: Robert Sean Leonard Frank WhaleyRun time: 114 minutesRating: Pg13Director: Thomas Carter
Amazon.com:
This strange movie with a niche subject--jazz-loving, dance-loving German kids persecuted by Hitler's men--almost works, thanks to a good cast who seem devoted to the unusual story line. Director Thomas Carter doesn't bring the necessary stylistic oomph to the musical sequences, something that might have pushed the whole production to another, more interesting level of Hollywood dream. Kenneth Branagh makes a particularly effective, wolf-in-sheep's-clothing Nazi official. --Tom Keogh

- A MUST SEE
I watch it over and over and never tire of it. It's an awesome story, the cast is perfect, and there is always something new to observe. Robert Sean Leonard is squeeable and the three boys who star in the piece can make a fangirl out of anybody. Even a couple boys I know ^_~.

- Each to His Own
Some have expressed love for this movie. Great. It's wonderful to experience the high of a great movie. For me, this was a huge disappointment. In the first place, I disliked the TV quality of the piece from first to last; it had that cheap TV look. The acting, the polished sets, the just-right costumes. The film lacked the look of the real which is no doubt more expensive than having everybody look like characters out of "Cabaret." Secondly, I objected immediately to the holier than thou, smug Hollywood ... Read More

- As good as I remember it, and slightly better now that I'm older and understand some of the references.
Swing Kids has always been a favorite movie of mine, since I first saw it in college. Seeing it again after having been in the music business for 8 years, many of the musical references and jokes are clearer to me now and made the movie that much better. Musician or not, I highly recommend renting/buying this flick.

- I'm not gonna lie... I LOVE this movie.
Yeah, the premise sounds weird.Nazi Germany + teens into swing music/culture = WTF?But, it's a tragic story of friends torn apart by an oppressive government.Robert Sean Leonard and Christian Bale are both wonderful.
