This two-CD, 25-song set, recorded in Louisville on two nights in the spring of 2002, finds bluegrass's most celebrated crossover band at the top of its game. Krauss's warm, feathery vocals, capable of conveying complex emotions in a single note, appear more full-bodied than in studio recordings, yet lose none of their sensual appeal or dramatic tension. She's perfect, for example, as the melancholy temptress on "Let Me Touch You for Awhile," coming across as both savior and seductress, while Jerry Douglas's Dobro echoes the searing strains of passion and pain. With banjoist-guitarist Ron Block, bassist Barry Bales, and guest drummer Larry Atamanuik anchoring the rhythm, the ensemble deftly blends bluegrass with jazz, rock, and folk, combining lightning speed (though rushing through "Forget About It") with sophisticated chops, tangible emotion, and thrilling vocal blends. The crowd, more spellbound with every note, doesn't even breathe on "Ghost in This House" and nearly tears the place down on Dan Tyminski's voice-of-George Clooney showcase, "I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow." But who could blame them? It's only one highlight on an album of uncommon artistry, a moving testament to how good live music can be in the hands of world-class players. --Alanna Nash

- If you like Alison Krauss. . . .and I Do!
I bought this album solely for the song, "Down to the River to Pray," which Alison Krauss sings acapella. It is haunting and inspiring at the same time. The other songs on the album are great, too. Alison Krauss's crystal clear voice is one of a kind and this album with the audience response of the "live" performance make it a great bluegrass album.

- Bluegrass, Newgrass, Great stuff
This two CD live performance is excellent in every way.Perfectly recorded and performed, it includes many of the songs the band is best known for.As usual, Alison's voice is angelic.Jerry Douglas plays licks on the dobro that are impossible.Great vocals and harmonies from Dan and Ron.A solid rhythm section, both with and without drums.
Thw two songs from Oh, Brother Where Art Thou?, Man of Constant Sorrow and Down to the River To Pray are terrific. Two old pop covers also ... Read More

- Good-Great for real fans, I suppose.
I was disappointed in this album, but then (1) the only Alison Krauss music I had was the "Raising Sand" album she made with Robert Plant, and I know now that this isn't at all representative of her work; and (2) all I did was read a few of the most helpful reviews.Since good reviews are generally said to be "helpful" by fans who are likely to (or already know they do) like the music, this isn't too smart, I guess. If you aren't very familiar with the artist, you really want to know the possible ... - Alison Krauss & Union Station - Live
This is a great CD with super pickin' and singing on all tracks. Alison Krause has the most beautiful, clear voice in the business. I can't believe that a year ago I never heard of her! Saw her on a tribute to James Taylor where she was singing "Carolina on my Mind." I was mesmerized by her singing and her beauty. She is a great artist. Too bad this genre of bluegrass isn't more popular right now, or she would be winning many more grammies.
