This is the first attempt to consolidate all of Sir Elton's hit singles, from three labels, in one collection. It once would've required at least four CDs to own the best stuff here. Many think the legendary performer was at his best in the early to mid-'70s, and the incredible string of singles that ran from 1970's "Your Song" through 1977's "Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word" remains mighty impressive. But in retrospect, as they're presented here, '80s hits like "I'm Still Standing" and "Sad Songs" add much to an already amazing legacy. Three Disney tunes, the lush "The One," and two from Songs from the West Coast, which was hailed as a return to those '70s golden days, represent the later years. Collectively, these tracks reinforce the notion that, despite Michael Jackson's later proclamations, John was once the closest thing post-'60s music had to a genuine king of pop, respected by hipsters and the mainstream alike. --Bill Holdship

- The Bitch is Back!
What can I say people? Admit it! You have missed your surly Seer, and for good cause! Who else can make your run the gamut of human emotions all within one review? I know I know people. You don't have to say it. I feel your love.
Oh yes. I can see you all now with your Carmen Miranda sunny smiles and your Jack Nicholson antics. It's o.k. Stretch out! Relax. Enjoy. Bask in my aura and know that the all encompassing vitamin pill, known as me, is the Ponce de Leon you've been looking for. ... Read More

- The King!
What can I say, Elton is The King as far as I am concerned.I have followed his career since the beginning and he only gets better.Every song contains a piece of him - heart and soul.Elvis - no, Michael - no, Elton absolutely yes! There's no one like him and this gathering of songs proves it.

- Definitive Collection
This two-disc set is as about as definitive as one can get, keeping in mind that a CD can only hold about 80 minutes of music (for those of you who complain of omissions).Really, any such collection is ultimately judged by whether it has all of one's favorites; to me, Disc One serves that purpose, although it lacks a couple of my own favorites for which there is simply no room.
Some have complained about "loudness" and "compression" and those are certainly an issue here, but the selection ... Read More
