Elizabeth Mitchell is a smidge less locked into the no-frills folkie formula on You Are My Sunshine than on her debut, You Are My Flower. In fact, if you subtract the A-list collaborators (and, OK, the dulcimers, mandolins, and human beat boxes), Mitchell starts to look a lot like the female Dan Zanes. The same rootsy sensibility rules both artists' recordings, as does a reverence for tried-and-true folk tunes ("Good Night Irene," "Skip to My Lou") and clean production. More significantly, slivers of Zane-like adventurousness shine through here: "Alphabet Dub" set the ABCs to a reggae beat; "Hey Bo Diddley" tips its hat to the rock & roll pioneer; and the kids are called in to spice up "Crawdad." Counting kids' artists who are genuinely cool still requires fewer than 10 fingers, but with Flower and Sunshine, Mitchell proves she's among the elite. --Tammy La Gorce

My daughter and I love these CDs.We have 3 of them, You are my Flower, You are my little bird and You are my Sunshine.She does a wonderful job and I highly recommend to anyone.
Old classics re-invented!
Rating: - Timeless.
I first heard Elizabeth Mitchell on NPR in October 2006 before I was even pregnant. She was featuring her '..Little Bird' CD.I book marked her because I knew her music would make a nice gift for some friends that were parents.When I had my twins a year later I started my children's collection with her music.Maybe I just resonate with her genre, Woody Guthrie, The Dead, Neil Young, Bob Marley, etc., but to me her music stands out from most childrens music.There are many good voices and educational ... Rating: - Wonderful album!
Love this album, like all of Elizabeth Mitchell's albums, it is lovely and fun to listen to. We know and sing every song. If you like her, you will like Dan Zanes too. In a world of Kids Bop and just an abundance of other bad cr*p marketed to kids that basically tells them to hurry up and be little adults, this album is so life-affirming and refreshing.

My 2-yr-old and I listen to this album and another of hers a LOT and it is great. Elizabeth Mitchell has a lovely, lovely voice and her choice of songs is such a great blend of folk songs, kid's songs, and cool covers drawn from lots of musical styles from reggae to rockabilly. Songs that might under the usual circumstances drive you insane, like Skip to My Lou or Froggy Went a-Courtin', she slows down and makes seem fresh and pretty. It's terrific music that kids and parents can enjoy simultaneously.

I bought this cd for my 6 month old son.He just smiled and smiled when we listened to the clip of You are my sunshine.I enjoy it on our car rides very much!Some of the songs I remember loving and growing up with from Sesame Street, and Schoolhouse Rock.
