Molly Ringwald established herself as the teen queen of the '80s in this fresh comedy. The movie is a day in the life of Samantha, whose 16th birthday is turning out to be anything but sweet. All the traumas of teendom come down on one long day, which sees Samantha surrounded by dithery relatives, mooning over a high school hunk, and pursued by a sawed-off Lothario. Sixteen Candles marked the directing debut of John Hughes, and its goofy energy displayed a promising talent with a great ear for high school lingo ... a promise neglected since Hughes became, after Home Alone, a one-man entertainment industry. There are some pretty crass moments (Why the stereotype of the foreign-exchange student from Asia?), but Ringwald's steady appeal smoothes over the rough spots. Samantha (Molly Ringwald) wakes up on the morning of her 16th birthday. This is a milestone most of us remember in one way, shape or form.After all, at 16 we're about 1/2 way through high school and just 2 years(!) away from having to be considered as adults.Just one problem:everyone has forgotten about Samantha's birthday.Oh no!With her older sister getting married, Samantha's family has had too many distractions to keep up with anything involving normalcy.

This movie is still as good if not better when it first premiered. It brings back fun memories of being 16 all over again. John Hughes has a knack for capturing the angst of young people. I will always be a big fan of his movies. Molly Ringwald is perfect in the role of Sam and Anthony Michael Hall as the geek. Great movie!! Two Thumbs Up!!

This is my 2nd favorite movie of all time.If you were born in the late 60s or the 70s, there's no way you wouldn't enjoy this movie.I've seen it at least 15 times and continue to watch it every chance that I get.
I mean really, come on ladies; JAKE RYAN...is there anything better.
