If a war movie can be lovely, this is it. John Huston directed this touching World War II story about a Marine (Robert Mitchum) stranded with a nun (Deborah Kerr) on a Pacific island overrun by Japanese. After initial antagonism, the resulting kinship between the two characters is human and civil, even after Mitchum's grunt understandably falls in love with his unlikely companion. The action scenes, in which the pair works together to stay ahead of the enemy, are first-rate. The actors have never been better, and Huston's perennial theme about destiny's denial of our dreams is achingly clear in this essentially two-person drama. --Tom Keogh

Set during the waning days of WWII on an island in the Pacific Ocean, a stranded nun(Deborah Kerr) and a stranded Marine sergeant(Robert Mitchum) face the peril of sustaining themselves on this island which houses a Japanese base. It is foreseeable that some personal feelings will blossum in this situation - the sergeant falls deeply in love and the nun begins to question her vows.This situation is fraught with suspence and even humor as the story line progresses toward a workable solution.

I just loved this movie so much! It is about a tough, and rough, but caring marine, and a beautiful nun, who are stranded on a island, surrounded by the japanese during WWII.
This is a wonderful story! The marine falls so in love with the beautiful nun, he loves her so, and even risks his life to get her a blanket from the enemy camp!
When the japs come to the island, and make camp there, the marine and the nun have to move to higher ground, and hide in a hidden cave, from ... Read More
