Amazon.com Product Description:
With a five-CD/dual-deck capacity and 4x dubbing speed, the Sony RCD-W500C does much more than merely play your favorite CDs--it lets you mix and burn your own. The device records on both CD-R and CD-RW formats, and is compatible with CD, CD-R, CD-RW, and MP3 playback. To improve the recording quality, the RCD-W500C uses Super Bit Mapping technology to reduce low-level noise in the background, and High Speed Finalizing to prepare your recorded CDs for playback. You can also enter your own title and track information using the CD text entry feature.

Sony packs in such additional features as 24-step program play, two-mode repeat play (track/disc), one-touch synchro-start recording (which minimizes the awkward gap between songs on recorded discs), and a full-featured remote control. The unit also delivers a 24-bit analog-to-digital/digital-to-analog converter, plus a headphone jack with a separate volume control for listening in private. The company ensures that its listeners receive the best possible sound by using gold-plated audio terminals for its digital input and output (optical) and analog input and output (RCA type) outlets. The RCD-W500C carries a one-year warranty on parts and labor.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - To all the naysayers
It's really a shame when so many people negatively criticize a great product.Time to clear the air on this thing.I'm gonna go out on a pretty stable limb and say that any faulty operation of this unit is 100% user error/ignorance.I have the model that was the immediate predecessor of this one, the RCDW50C.Bought it in 2003.It's the exact same unit as this one except it does not have MP3 playback capability.Same manual, same everything.I have had it for 6 years now, and have never had ... Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - RCD-W500C not what I thought it would be!
I was looking for a CD player/recorder primarily to record from tapes & radio onto CD's.From the information about the RCD-W500C on Amazon I assumed it could do these things, plus I had read one, or two of the customer reviews, where the person said they made CD's from records. It did play CD's better than my old player (my old one is junk). But when using the instructions (for recording CD-R's) from the manual, at a certain point what the unit did diverged from what the manual said it would do. ... Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A+ PRODUCT
This product was purchased at the right time. BecAuse, Cassette tapes are going out of date. In this century the church media ministry needs a cd recorder for modern day technical people. Would tell others about this product and will keep buying from seller.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great unit
This is a great unit. It does all that I wanted it to do.In reading other reviews the writers spoke of confusing instructions. Having had a Philips previously, that broke down and could not be prepared, the instructions learned from that unit made the Sony easy.So it appears learning from one will help using another.Buy another Sony, yes.Buy from Amazon, yes.pf

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Not A Bad Thing
I've had this machine for little over six years and it still works well, I've had some mechanical issues with it however and after two repairs I have no problems. In this recorders defense I think the first time it was repaired the work was subpar and it was back in the shop for the same problem two weeks later. I bought this recorder at the now defunct Circuit City along with an extended warranty and I had no problems during the warranty validity date, it was not long after the malfunction happened ...
