Hats off to the designers of appliances that perform multiple functions! After all, what kitchen couldn't benefit from more efficient use of limited space? The Krups FDH212 10-cup automatic rice cooker is also a slow cooker and a food steamer; select among those three modes and then, if necessary, set the time using the touch buttons on the control panel. The time counter shows remaining cooking time on a two-digit display. After cooking in any mode, the Krups rice cooker will shift to a keep-warm mode; the switch-over is noted by an orange indicator light on the control panel. In its most basic function, this rice cooker yields up to 20 cups of cooked rice. But it's also useful for all the typical slow-cooker dishes; soups, stews, chili, etc. An enclosed booklet includes recipes that range from the home-style Yankee Pot Roast to the fancier Casablanca lamb and apricot stew, as well as including simple cooking instructions for rice.
This is a lovely appliance, too--modern curves in gleaming stainless steel with high-gloss black lid and accents. The lacquer-black lid has a large, curved, stay-cool handle and a click-close lock with a gray release button. On the underside of the lid, a removable steam shield helps keep the scalding steam away from the lid and directs moisture back into the food. - Would be 5 stars but for the steamer.
I've owned this product for over a year.I'm very happy with the rice cooker and the slow cooker.The slow cooker always cooks on low, which is fine with me.No high setting. When the cooking is done, it goes on the keep warm setting.
I fancy it for all sorts of rice and overnight oatmeal with steel cut oats.
The steamer basket is a bit small, so I don't use it.I love the way it locks and is light weight.Easy to lift and store.All and all it's a winner.

We received this as a wedding gift 4+ years ago and used it semi-regularly (3x/month).The cooking mechanism for rice is fine--we've successfully made all types of rice, polenta, etc.
Problems which have me looking for something else:
1.The rice cooker fxn broke ~6 mo ago.It would turn to "warm" without cooking the rice.We can still make rice by using the steam option, so it's still serviceable, but sort of annoying.
2. The slow cooker option gives no temperature ... Read More

I didn't realize this was so-o-o big! Still figuring out how to get non-sticky rice, but then I was trying to do that via the stove also! I think it will eventually be very useful. Just have to get used to it.

The rice cooker portion of this machine is great. The steamer is okay. The keep warm feature in all modes is also wonderful - whatever you prepare is ready when you need it to be.
However, the slow cooker is VERY UNDERPOWERED. It takes twice as long as any slow cooker recipe. There is no high setting option, and it is just too slow. We have started putting it on steam cook for 20-30 minutes to build up some heat in the machine, then setting it to slow cook for hours. This helps a little.

Not very pleased with the performance of this rice cooker.The lid cracked after just 2 uses.It seems that the lid would get "hung up" on the hinge every time the lid was opened.One day I looked, and low and behold it was cracked--almost halfway across the entire lid (from the hinge outward)Doesn't seem to affect cooking because the lid still seals, but a disappointment after spending extra $ on the Krups name.
