The melding of South African styles and Simon's trademark sensibility made for one of the most intriguing albums--not to mention commercial hits--of the '80s. At once lively, thoughtful, gorgeous, and tough, Graceland acknowledges splits both in South Africa's social fabric and in Simon's personal life (the title track is a clear descendant of the earlier "Hearts and Bones," a song about the singer-songwriter's brief marriage to Carrie Fisher). Humor is hardly absent from the mix, though; witness the addled "I Know What I Know" and the fable-like "You Can Call Me Al." --Rickey Wright

- One of my all time favorites
We had Graceland in tape format years ago and absolutely wore it out.Hard to find a CD, and was so glad I thought to check Amazon. My husband and I call it our "Going Bye-Bye Music" because whenever we start out on a road trip we blast You Can Call Me Al.Also, this work was our first introduction to the transcendently beautiful Ladysmith Black Mambazo.Happy Days eh?

- Dancing in the kitchen
This CD makes me so happy.Put it on when you have chores to do and before you know it they are done and you're still dancing around the house.I love the extra cuts of "Diamonds on the Soles"....A great value for all the music you get.

- Cannot be fully appreciated in one listen.
I have listened to this album a hundred times and it always seems fresh and interesting. I always seem to hear something new with each listen. This is the first real experimental album that Simon made using musicians from Africa ("Rhythm Of The Saints" follows in this mode with South American personnel). The album is absolutely stunningly brilliant from every conceivalble aspect: lyrics, tone, instrumentation, vocals you name it it hasn't aged a day. Listen to it (but not just once).

I needed this item as a gift.I checked the store prices first and then compared them, which left me only to make a no-contest decision to buy here.My item arrived quickly to my front door in gift-giving condition.
