Black plastic is very sturdy--looks like it will last forever.Handle is 4 inches long, 1.75 inches wide at the ends, 1.5 inches wide in the center.Weighs almost 1 lb. Jingles are loud, bright.I like hitting the inner circle with the pad of my hand, and then stroking the top circle with my fingers as I pull the tambourine away--gives an extra little "twrrr".
