Josh Groban fans who caught the singer's 2004 Closer tour would no doubt take note of Lucia Micarelli, who was the violinist and concertmaster for Groban. Like her boss, who also is executive producer ofMusic From A Farther Room, Micarelli is a young, attractive, and talented player who has the classical training, but who is also enchanted with pop music. Also like her boss, her strain of classical crossover works thanks to tasteful accompaniment, in this case from arranger/composer Paul Schwartz. The smartly chosen program of material comes from such varied catalogs as David Bowie and Rogers and Hart. Micarelli's playing is emotional without being overreaching, assertive when called upon, and nuanced. When she does go over-the-top pop on Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody," it's brief but fun; when she navigates Piazzolla's "Oblivion" she draws upon the song's passion more than its technical requisites. This is a debut with likeable pizzazz, coming in a genre not often enough known for it. -- Tad Hendrickson

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Lucia's music
This young lady is amazingly talented. And her choice of songs is superb. This is a great CD to relax to, meditate to and/or just for a calming effect when times are hectic.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Lori
If you are looking for great classical style violin playing, try Gilles Apap or Regina Carter's Paganini: After a Dream.Needless to say, Joshua Bell has some fine approachable cds also. This cd was not worth the price.Micarelli is technically okay, but this cd is boring and her playing is nothing special.

Lucia's expertise is captured on this CD.We saw her in person on Valentine's Day, playing with Botti. She is a virtuoso, someone whose performance is an event and cannot be forgotten. In the middle of the concert, more than half the audience leapt to their feet, tears streaming, after her one piece to give a standing ovation. Lucia Micarelli has that rare riveting talent where the listener stops breathing. i had to have her music at home. This young, beautiful woman is destined to be known and ... Read More
