"The love impulse in man," says a psychiatrist in Bringing Up Baby, "frequently reveals itself in terms of conflict." That's for sure. For a primer on the rules and regulations of the classic screwball comedy, which throws love and conflict into close proximity, look no further. A straight-laced paleontologist (Cary Grant) loses a dinosaur bone to a dog belonging to free-spirited heiress Katharine Hepburn. In trying to retrieve said bone, Grant is drawn into the vortex surrounding the delicious Hepburn, which becomes a flirtatious pas de deux that will transform both of them. Director Howard Hawks plays the complications as a breathless escalation of their "love impulse," yet the movie is nonetheless romantic for all its speed. (Hawks's His Girl Friday, also with Grant, goes even faster.) Grant and Hepburn are a match made in movie heaven, in sync with each other throughout. Not a great box-office success when first released, Bringing Up Baby has since taken its place as a high-water mark of the screwball form, and it was used as a model for Peter Bogdanovich's What's Up, Doc? --Robert Horton

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Mindless, pointless, irritating...
Katharine Hepburn is extremely annoying in this movie. The plot seems to come from nowhere. Overall bad movie... it gets better toward the end though... still a VERY stupid movie.

Frank Capra rules in the screwball genre!

BRINGING UP BABY is exactly what screwball comedy is all about.Howard Hawks was great at it, and so is the director of this film, Frank Capra.Capra has done so many wonderful screwball comedies that we might lose sight at how difficult it is to pull one off.He does it beautifully.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great Movie
I love this movie, I remember watching it on our first black and white TV, yes I'm older, but my 21 year old gradson was over, when I had it on, and he even got some laughs out of it. It's one I'll watch many time, great combo of actors, and darling story for the times. I believe this was one of Katharine Hepbun's first leading roles.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great classic!
This is one of my favorite classics and certainly one of my favorite Katherine Hepburn movies.I don't understand why it did not do better in ratings when it was in theatres.Katherine Hepburn is the funniest ditzy heiress ever and the movie has a nice quick pace.My kids even enjoyed it.
