Looking at the reviews I ordered it and yesterday I received this. Below are the problems I had and called the customer service yesterday night it self. I am returning it today.
1) The spring action did not work on one of the sides to remove the sandwich plate.
2) The plastic body around the handle seems to be not a good material. I did not notice initially but later when I tried to test it then I noticed that on one of the side it is already broken. I think the body should ... Read More

I have used this item a handful of times, so I can't vouch for the durability, but I'm very pleased so far.It's small and can stand on end for vertical storage.The removable plates are a huge factor for me.I love that for cleaning!As for the waffles:I made sure to lightly butter the plates every other batch and let it come back to temp before the next batch.It doesn't take long, and ensures good results.The square shape means frozen leftovers will fit in the toaster.It would be nice if ... When you first plug this thing in you're whole house is gonna smell like burnt rubber.They say "this is normal at first".Unfortunately it happened the second and 3rd time as well and the waffles TASTED of burnt rubber.I can't help but imagine that I just ate a pound of tefflon.Everything else worked fine.So if you like BBQ'd GOODYEAR then this bad boy is for you.Otherwise, I'd spend a few more bucks and buy something nicer.(p.s.I'm pregnant so I can smell and taste things the average person ... This is my second T-Fal Avante Waffle & Sandwich Maker. I dropped the last one on the kitchen floor once too often -- the heating element still worked, but the hinges were broken.
I love anything made with melted cheese (except maybe ice cream), and I like this product because it makes crispy, evenly-browned grilled cheese sandwiches. Try it with good quality French bread, swiss and smoked turkey. Other styles I've had did not brown as evenly, or make the sandwiches so crispy.

Bought this for my father who likes to make waffles, plus my mother makes cheese sandwiches on a rainy day accompanied by Campbell's tomato soup. It prevents you from having to buy two kitchen appliances.
