As you might expect, Timeless isn't your parents' Sergio Mendes. Take "Mais Que Nada," the opener from that topselling staple of post-60s, post-bossa, near-kitsch Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66: Greatest Hits. Here it's no simple, slinky groove. The Black-Eyed Peas are along for the bumpin' ride. What it amounts to is the same intercultural collision that happened when bossa nova met jazz and pop via Stan Getz's tenor sax, except here the meeting is between the lounge and, presumably, the street. John Legend and India.Arie keep the session on a downtempo, neo Brazilian vibe on "Please Baby Don't" and the title track (respectively). Once those are tunes end, though, it's back to the bump and the beats and the irresistible party vibe of the set. Don't fret, though, as the Peas keep things light enough to trigger innocent headbobs and chilled out dance steps. - How to wreck a perfectly good Sergio Medes recording
This is perhaps the most annoying record I've heard. Whatever you might think are the merits of hip-hop, its aesthetic is the polar opposite of the light and cheery samba and bossa nova of Sergio Mendes, and trying to graft one on to the other only produces a mess. I think there may be some good songs in here, but they're buried beneath the dumbed-down bass-heavy layer of hip hop and rap, so who can tell? All the sophisticated and complex rhythms of Brazil are bludgeoned by the idiotic simplicity ... Read More

I guess it all comes down to... whether you like hip hop/rap or not. I actually HATE it and feel like the songs were completely ruined. I've liked Sergio Mendes since I was little and I almost cried when I heard this. I'm sure some people will enjoy it but if you don't like Black Eyed Peas and stuff like that, you will definitely not like this.

I love this CD, as a ballroom dancer, I found it offered a new twist to the old favorites. Most of the songs are terrific,upbeat and different.

The album is appropriately titled "Timeless" because the classic bossa nova tunes are now being praised by later generations that gives the tunes no time limit. Once I heard the "Mas Que Nada" arrangement by Mendes and Will.I.Am, I was hooked.Every hip hop and bossa lover should have this in their collection.
