- It doesn't get much worse
I purchased the i800 Pro because it has a transparency scanning function I need for dental xrays.The machine has a nice array of what appear to be handy buttons on the front.The documentation refers to a Microtek Scanner Configuration utility that is needed to program these buttons.Guess what?There is no such utility included on the installation CD.Trying to find the utility on their web page was an exercise in futility.I finally found an obscure reference that stated that this utility ... I purchased this Microtek i800 photo scanner because I wanted to do high quality 35mm-4X5 film and transparency scans.Once again this product proved the negative maxim of purported "universal" solution solving products.I am interfacing this i800 scanner with a PC laptop computer that runs Microsoft XP(Home edition)at 1.4 GHZ with 1GB of ram and a 30GB hard drive. The negative comments made by other Amazon reviewers are right on the money. One of Amazon's reviewers correctly commented on the lack ... Read More
Rating: - Don't Use their "EZ mount"
Keep getting out focus when scanning 35mm negative films? The hint is NOT using EZ film mounts that comes with this i800 scanner. The mount lifted films like 2mm from the glass, which makes it getting out of focus.
How come they can ship the mounts with the scanners without testing before?

I bought this scanner to replace an old and unsupported Umax model that would not work at all with Windows Vista, and decided on this model after comparing prices and features, and I'm glad I did.
One thing to note -- this thing weighs quite a bit, so make sure you have a large, sturdy surface to put it on.
Installation was almost flawless. The CDs that came in the package had older drivers, so I downloaded the latest versions from the Microtek website. My biggest concern was ... Read More

I have a Microtek scanner and just downloaded the latest drivers.It turns out Microtek wants a program called Scan Finder to load at every start-up, and there is no way to disable this.The product works satisfactorily, but for my money, I will purchase something else.Something that doesn't create such a nuisance, and isn't so invasive.
