Forget Breaking Bonaduce or The Surreal Life. Ewan McGregor has made a celebrity reality series that's entertaining without having to be called a guilty pleasure. Long Way Round is a documentary detailing the 20,000-mile motorcycle trip he took around the world with best friend Charley Boorman over 115 days. Their trip took them from London through locales such as Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Siberia, and Canada, to name a few, before ending in New York. Armed with a cameraman, McGregor and Boorman encounter separation anxiety from their families; a shifty stranger (later revealed to be Mafia) who leads them through winding dark corridors to a posh hotel room; delays at international borders; hosts who offer them Fear Factor-level animal parts for dinner; injuries, equipment breakdowns, and more. The pair also film their own video diaries, in which they voice concerns and frustrations. The result is an emotional, rich breadth of experiences, from the hardship of logistical setbacks paired with the joy of visiting the children of Chernobyl and encountering hospitable locals who insist on escorting them wherever they go. McGregor and Boorman also make witty emcees, cheerfully upbeat even when they wonder aloud if one of their gun-happy hosts is a psycho murderer. The seven-episode series, originally aired on Bravo, concludes with their emotional ride into the Big Apple and some surprises for the pair courtesy of the show's producers. The two-disc DVD includes some can't miss deleted scenes, including McGregor's story about being confused for Jude Law, and a clip of McGregor attempting Jedi mind tricks on commuters who keep stopping in the road to peer at his broken-down bike ("These aren't the bikes you're looking for."). Long Way Round may have been an arduous once-in-a-lifetime experience, but you can't help but hope McGregor and Boorman suit up for another road trip someday. -- Ellen A. Kim.
Album Description:
NTSC/Region 0. Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman begin a twenty thousand mile trip by motorcycle around the world, travelling through Europe, Mongolia and Canada. Seven one hour episodes. Long Way Round documents the adventures of film stars Ewan McGregor (Trainspotting, Moulin Rouge, Star Wars) and Charley Boorman on their 20,000 mile motor bike trip around the world. Departing from London on 14th April 2004 the pair travelled through Europe, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Siberia, Alaska, Canada arriving in the USA just over 3 months later. Along the way the intrepid pair encountered Kalashnikov-toting gangsters and extreme cuisine, survived numerous motorised scrapes often whilst traversing non existent roads days from the nearest hospital and found themselves alarmingly close to a hungry grizzly bear. They arrived at their final destination, New York, on 29th July and this DVD release tells the story from the eyes of the two film stars. EMI.

Ewan and Charley have created a Document reflecting Our World today.
On a Trek from England to New York City, the long way, these two amature Motorcycle enthusists travel across Europe, the Soviet Union, and America documenting the quality of life of the people and children on their way.Much geographical and political information as well as a few good laughs.Pg13 as this is an ad-lib, no script documentery with a dash of colorful language here and there.Very educational for older children ... - Great DVD!
I received this for my birthday and enjoyed every minute of the series! Ewan and Charley ride the ultimate ride that I also want to do. After seeing the Road of Bones in Russia though, I don't know that I'm up to the challenge. If you ride--buy this and watch them experience the ride of a lifetime!

- Inspiring, Funny, Heart-Breaking Adventure!
This is a fantastic modern-day adventure story of two close friends who decide to take a trip around the world on their motorcycles. Of course, because one of them is well-known and liked actor Ewan McGregor, this is a high budget, sponsor-laden trip that I'm sure cost somewhere between one and two million dollars to make considering all of the support personnel, film resources and on-the-road support that they were given. But "good for them". They came up with a great idea and found the right people ... Read More
