We purchased this based on the Amazon ratings,despite the fact that most people say it doesn't get to optimal temps. And it certainly didn't in my case.We gave it plenty of time to heat up, and made sure the potatoes were prepared exactly as suggested.We had about 2 baking potatoes worth of fries,didn't seem like very much. As soon as we put them in,the temp dropped to 300,and it never came back up.We left the food in twice as long as recommended,but they never cooked all the ... Read More

I bought this Presto fryer a while back and have loved it. I read all the instructions first and used a candy thermometer to make sure the unit's thermostat was accurate and it was. I had read the review on here about stirring the oil if it doesn't reach the proper temp and that worked like a charm.
I wasn't sure when I would use it again so after the first fry fest (say that three times fast) I drained and filtered the oil using a large mesh strainer with a round coffee filter. Then ... Read More

The Presto fryer easy to clean, quick to reach proper temp. The easy to remove heating element made for the oil pan removal easy for cleaning. I would recommend this product for anyone wanting to purchase this product for quick, easy, cooking in large batches.

I have only used this unit 4 times since purchase.I needed the bulk qualities of this which has proven worthy in my book.I have only used 100% peanut oil whereas other reviews may differ. It seemed the first use was not to standards as stated in specs, etc. but following fry uses maintained temperature much better and held temperature as I had hoped it would.Have only used for french fries (1/4"), chicken and onion rings since purchase but the quantity needed, taste (using peanut oil) and expectations ... Easy clean up...did put the baskets in the dishwasher and they appeared to have rusted after one use/wash...Thus, I'll wash by hand in the future...Cooks quickly and evenly..is a large appliance
