Amazon.com Product Description:
The Solio universal "hybrid" solar charger is powerful enough to charge all ofyour handheld electronic products at home or on the move. The Solio works byabsorbing power from either four hours in the wall socket or 8 to 10 hours of directsunlight, and then storing the energy within its internal battery. Once the Solio's batteryis full, you can use the unit to charge your cell phone, iPod, MP3 player, PDA, gameplayer, GPS, fish finder, or digital camera, making it a powerful all-in-one battery charger. The universal charger is also environmentally friendly and cost-effective, as the sun- based energy is completely free and creates no harmful impacts. And the design couldn'tbe simpler, with a fan-blade outlay that achieves maximum solar area when in use. Justspread out the blades, expose them to direct sunlight either outdoors or affixed to awindow, and get ready to take your power on the road.
The pink Solio charges your electronics at the same rate as a conventional charger, andstores enough juice to fully charge an average cell phone at least once or an iPod nanoat least two times. In addition, the Solio can charge your electronics directly rather thanrelying on the built-in battery. An hour of sun, for instance, will deliver enough powerfor about an hour of iPod playing time, 10 minutes of cell phone talk time, or four hoursof cell phone standby time. Finally, the energy in the Solio's built-in battery doesn't needto be redeemed immediately, as it stores the juice for more than a year.
To make the Solio easier to use, the device comes with a series of interchangeable tipsystem connectors, including connectors for Nokia, Motorola, and Samsung cell phones, along with a mini-USB tip and an interchangeable tip system cable. And travelers willlove the included global wall charger, with adapters for the U.S., U.K., Europe, andAustralia/New Zealand. The Solio, which measures 2.5 by 1.3 by 4.7 inches (W x H x D),is backed by a one-year warranty.

- Solio Vs. Dead Battery
My grandfather owns a remote cabin in the middle of a Californian National Forest. It's so remote that there isn't even a road for miles. We had to build our own. We were all out of food and fresh water, and my two friends, my two uncles, my grandpa, and I were all getting ready to leave. We turned the key and... the battery was dead. Stone dead. We couldn't even trigger the electric lock in the car doors. There is, understandably, no cellphone service out there, and the nearest people were in a ... Read More

- 2 days of blazing Thai sun
2 full days in the tropics and still not more than 75% charged.Useful only as a backup via internal lithium battery.Got a bit wet one night (since behind glass charging was very slow) I left it outside.Broke.Steer clear of this.

- Didn't work for me
I reviewed this elsewhere and basically said it didn't work for either of our cell phones, even though we did have the correct tips. I tried charging a Nokia and an Audiovox Smartphone. Both went dead instead of being recharged. I so wanted it to work, but not no avail.

- A decent charger
My charger arrived on time and in great condition. The attachment for the Nokia is a little loose on my phone but fits great on my wife's.You really must give it a full charge first or it will start to drain your device! It took over five hours to charge via my laptop and longer in direct sunlight though it was slightly overcast that day (I live in Kenya so the equatorial sunlight is strong).

- Very disappointed: way too complicated and too many useless parts to be green
The solio comes with many useless parts (such as a host of foreign adapters) and a silly suction cup for attaching the solio to a window even though the directions state that charging through a window isn't very effective.
You have to charge with about 8 hours of direct sunlight---and they do mean direct. You need to move the solio as the sun moves.
All that being said, it failed to charge my samsung phone and in fact, has ruined the phone. It will not charge conventionally ... Read More
